I recently purchased a new K1200LT and at the same time purchased a CB for it and had it installed at the dealer. When I tried to use it a loud Buzz was being transmitted making my voice illegible to the receiver.

The dealer then tells me the radio wasn't recommended for the 05 model and they had been installing them with now problems until now. They also mentioned someone else having this problem after me and said they couldn't support it and offered to take it back out for a full refund.

I had them take the radio out and leave the PTT and Antenna installed just in case I found a solution later I wouldn't have to deal with those parts later.

Anyone have this problem? Solution?

Yup, CB's & LT's can have issues.
Most find it to be a ground loop issue requiring 12 volt power to be rerouted.

LOTS !!! of threads on the subject on the old site. Check the archives section on subject .... You will reading for days !!

Good luck.

Anyone have this problem? Solution? There's a new lower cable for the headset that is supposed to solve the new (J&M-style) CB noise problems. I believe it was just recently released; if not, it's about to be. You might want to look into that before tossing in the towel.

Hey MotorHead,

I just found this site last night so I don't know which "old site" that you refer to.

Hey MotorHead,

I just found this site last night so I don't know which "old site" that you refer to.It's about 1/2 down the Forums page -- it's linked as a forum. Once youn enter the forum, you can use the old site's search function.

I just completed installing a bunch of stuff on my '05 including a VOICE II and BMW CB. As has been described several times before I too get noise along with my transmissions. However, the noise is more of a mid to high frequency squeal rather than a buzz. The person receiving my transmission can understand my words but the squeal is extremely annoying. I'm just wanting to understand if my problem is typical of what everyone is talking about or if mine is something different. Is this what is supposed to be solved by the revised cables that we may see someday?

I swapped my BMW/J&M Headset for a Edset with the 6-pin adapter and it solved the problem for me. Of course this was after I tested every piece of electronics on the bike, swapped the antenna out twice, including all new coax. I heard about the "new" BMW cable, but my dealer doesn't have any info on it yet. The connector on the Edset is a bit difficult to deal with when wearing gloves, but the sound is as good or better then the Elite J&M and the price is right.

Never heard of an "Edset". What is it/where can you get one/how much??
I know, lots of questions.

Hi Lynn,

That is pretty much how others described the sound to me. Something like feedback... The noise seemed to vary a bit on my end depending on if I was using High or Low setting, but it was always a squeal/whine.

Thanks
Tim

Lynn,

I have some family that is really into the Goldwing community and EdSets have been very popular there for some time. They are a small shop and my experience dealing with them has been excellent. He even helped me with some wiring questions prior to starting to sell the 6-pin adapters. The website is http://edsets.com/ I am using one of his headsets and a 6-pin adapter http://edsets.com/order.htm#Standard%20Adaptors

I worked with J&M to purchase a couple helmets about 6 months ago. I was not happy with their customer service, but I did learn that the cables for the J&M CB unit that uses the 6-pin connectors is the same as the BMW cables--it is just too short to use for the rider. So this is how I determined that Ed's cables would work....

With the adapter the prices come in slightly lower than the J&M headset without the BMW lower.
Thanks
Tim
