I am about to do my 12,000 mile service on my 05 KLT. I got the service kit from Beemerbone Yard. It has a fuel filter and air filter included. These look like a pain to change but if it is nesscary I will do it . Need input from you Vet KLT owners on when to change these.

12K on the air filter, 24K on the fuel. I have adhered to this and the air filter was dirty as well as the fuel filter. If the fuel filter cloggs up you stop moving. By going that far into the bike you also get a chance to look it over good for other issues.

Changing the air filter requires removing the tank to gain access to the air filter. Once the tank is off it is relatively easy to change the fuel filter so I do both at the same time. YMMV

I also change air and fuel filters at the same time.
