No really I just use Mobil 1 car oil and i'm doing just fine.
They make a motorcycle oil if you can find it.

Engine oil works great. Anything you'd put in a moderatley high reving 4 cylindar automotive engine will do. I've been using GTX flavored dead dinos of some type or 'nuther (hey, it was on sale at Mega-lo-mart). Last time I was in the the valve train - 'bout 12k miles - looked brand spank'n new in there.
As to the smoke on start up - it's a very well known and understood phenomenon resulting from a laterally mounted engine. In other words 'normal'. Though messy.
EDIT:
But, then, I think you knew that already and I just walked in it. Man, whadda Monday.

Easy, one that prevents both wobbles AND smoking! :rotf:
or as someone suggested 3 in 1 although you could probably get away with 2 in 1 since you only have 2 problems! couse with 3 in 1 you always have 1 to spare, just in case... :)

It uses oil? I just thought it was the Jet A fuel burning off.

Tires: Do I need them and how often do I change the air?
Bet I get at least one reply to even this! UFB

Well if there is a lack of air in the tyres, I think you should take it back under warranty and ask them why they didn't put enough in to start with.
Tyres are handy to prevent the rims wearing down and so altering the gearing.

You might need some handlebars to hold on to,for when the wobble sets in!

BMW OEM air is defective...definitely a warranty issue.

Just before I got rid of the BT-020's, front and rear, I did the hands off the handle bars test and experienced "Front Wheel wobble" between 35 - 45 mph. The front tire itself had about 10k miles, cupped on the outsides, and was just wearing down to the wear mark.
About 1 week ago changed both tires to the Avon Storm - ST's...the "Front Wheel wobble with hands off" is no longer there. That basically tells me that tire wear was a factor on my bike (2001 LT) that caused the front wheel to wobble.

Was the problem with BMW summer weight OEM tire air only? I'm about to change to the lighter weight winter air and don't want to cause a compatability problem.
Also, if I change my tires to tyres will handling improve?

I thought winter air was more dense, so you don't need so much?

I thought everyone new that German engineered air is hot. A lot of hot air. 90W in the summer and 60W in the winter, but you have to use BMW OEM air to not void the warranty.

Well then, tyres it is. I don't wish to be lumped with those ill-bred ruffians who sport tires on their motorcycles.
Winter weight OEM tyre air is an engineering marvel. It should be denser than summer weight air, but needs to have a lower viscosity at the same time. Very smart, those BMW engineers who figured out how to solve this dilemna by designing the optional Hi-Dens/Lo-Vis BMW winter weight tyre air.

Okay... lets put a stop to this. I started this thread as a joke. I (and most everyone who can use the search function) know what oil (and air) to use. We know what causes the front end to wobble and that smoking on startup is normal. All of this has been discussed ad nauseam.
What's that noise?

It's the summer weight air being let out of a gentleman's tyres.

A few more questions:
Does the summer weight tyre air contain any CFCs for cooling? Can it be saved for next season (maybe run through a coffee filter first) or does it need to be recycled?
Does the change require a 'flush' with another solvent?

"Does the change require a 'flush' with another solvent?"
Crap, now I have to buy a BMW-spec flush valve, unless the older Kohler flush valves I've accumulated in my shop are adaptable.
