Recently the reception of my FM stations had fallen to nothing, yet when tuned to AM stations or Weatherband everything works great. Has anyone else experience this and found a solution to fix it?

My AM stations never worked, it looked like the stepping of the band was wrong.

You might look at some of the similar posts at the bottom of the page. It seems like a few people have reported corrosion at the base of the antenna.

So today the radio was removed, connections clean and greased with dielectric. Antenna removed and all connections cleaned and still not joy with FM receiption. AM and Weatherband work perfectly. So I'm thinking its time for a new radio. I've also tried disconnecting the power for a few hours and reconnecting and the same results.

On my 2000 I found that the spring at the bottom of the antenna rod was broken. I improvised with a soldered-on wire, but it was a pain in the butt to get aligned properly. Here's how you can test to see if it's radio or antenna:
Take the 4 screws off the bottom of the antenna mount and pull off the plate. Then remove the antenna connector, it pulls right out. Now take a wire and attach it to the antenna wire center lead and see what you can hear on the radio. Alternatively, you could unscrew the antenna rod and hold it on to the center lead.
If you get good reception, it's the connection at the base. Look in there with a flashlight and see if you think the antenna rod's spring is touching the mount. It should be covered with a black plastic insulator.
Good luck.

I've tried all the tips. But looks like FM circuit is dead. AM and Weatherband work perfectly. FM is just static. Yesterday I took off the tupperware. Took out the radio unit, cleaned up all the connections. Took apart the antenna base and cleaned everything up and while apart held the antenna mast against center connector of antenna wire. Still no joy. Next is get a used unit.
Thanks

Yeah if it's only one band it's the radio. Check out ltparts.com, Tony has a couple radios pulled from scrap bikes.

I have the same problem with FM ... it depends on where my arms are located ... if they are forward like I'm clearing the MPG readout it comes in a lot better, but in most riding positions the reception is really bad
I'm thinking about just hooking up a MS Zune with an adapter - it has it's own FM tuner plus a 30GB MP3 player, so if I can get that to work I'm set
best of luck - I am anxious to see if the new radio helps things ... if that's all it is I'll be doing the same thing (as well as the Zune MP3 thing)

My radio reception was a bad unit. Also had on channel blown out (Left rear speaker was not getting anything). The cassette unit is worlds ahead of the CD unit when it comes to reception. The AM-FM reception is perfect. The control unit for the CD version radio also works perfectly with the Cassette style unit. So my reception problem is resolved. I would recommend this change to anyone with this problem. Having the cassette unit also makes it easy to add external input just by getting one of the cassette adapter that use the cassette player.
