I'm seriously thinking about spending a few days in Mexico between Christmas and New Years. I know several of you guys have made this trip but can't recall if it was on a GS, Lt, or other. I'm curious about the condition of these roads, two up on a LT? I'm thinking of crossing the border @ Calexico and taking RT 5 south to San Felipe. San Felipe to Ensenada via RT 3 and from there continuing on RT 3 North to the border crossing at Tecate. Any comments on scenery, lodgings, and border crossing tips will appreciated.

Those roads are all paved and should be no problem on the LT. Keep in mind that entering and leaving most of the small towns there are large speed bumps call "Topas" that aren't always marked. Also, alot of the smaller towns between Mexicali, San Felipe, Ensenada etc will only have dirt streets...

Small towns have dirt roads, AND bad fuel. I got a bad load of gas once; ruined my trip, and was a pain in the a$$ to clean out.

Last Easter I did 1800 miles south of the boarder. Found the roads be ok except where road work was being done. Also, the "Topas" speed bumps are different heights. My LT would drag on the taller bumps, I was so glad I wasn't on a newer model with power center stand. Riding two up I'd be real careful with the Topas. By the way, I had great time.
