I want to start using Amsoil in my 05 K12LT with 10,500 miles. I would like to change it every 12,000 miles or once a year. Anyone else doing this? Are you using the Amsoil filter?
Thanks , Mike

I've done exactly that for the last 100,000 miles and using their oil filter at the same mileage. I've also used their SVG 75W90 gear lube at 24,000 miles change intervals in the final drive and transmission for the past 100,000 miles.

Hi Mike, I am doing exactly what you are suggesting. I do not use the Amsoil filter but only because my dealer did not carry it. I change oil when I put the bike away every winter. I usually have from 12,000 to 15,000 miles a season. We have a short season hear in northern Michigan. I also use there gear lube in the final drive and transmission. I have 34,000 miles on my 2005 and I pull a camper trailer, no final drive problems yet x x x crossing my fingers. I change final drive fluid once a year also.

Hey, why don't you fill out your name, location and bike info so we can see where you hale from.
I joined the Amsoil club ($15.00 in Canada) which gives a good discount when you order oil and filters. Just go online and look up a rep in your area. I use the Amsoil filters which here (Canada) are much less than the BMW filters and equal in structure (well made). $9.00 opposed to $17.00 from the dealer. Amsoil changed the filter to a smaller circumference so your BMW wrench won't fit. Just order one from Amsoil. I think they quoted me $10.00. They send a magazine every month when you join the club. It has a lot of technical stuff and all the dealers lists for North America. You can also qualify to be a dealer if you want to apply.

If I were you, I would change your oil at 6K intervals to support your manufacturer's warranty until it is expired. I use amsoil, have an extended warranty and with the beemer filter, I will be changing at 6K.

I also use Amsoil for all 3 components. I'm now over 20,000 Km (12,500 miles) and am switching from dino oil to synthetic for the first time in the engine.
Engine: Amsoil "MCV"
Tranny: Amsoil Long Life synthetic "FGR" 75W90
Rear drive: Amsoil Severe Gear "SVO" 75W140
I change the rear drive oil at least twice per year based on oil analysis results.
In regards to oil filters, the Amsoil filter is NOT the same internally as the BMW filter (at least this was the case when I cut one open) I still use BMW filters.
