What is the proper procedure to replace my battery? I am fairly mechanically inclined but just get nervous when it comes to my bike. Is there any pit falls or specific procedures, for example setting the TPS etc? I should know about.

Really very easy to replace the battery.
1. Disconnect the negative lead to the battery. There may be an additional
connection depending on the farkles on your bike.
2. Disconnect the positive lead to the battery. There may be an additional
connection depending on the farkles on your bike.
3. Remove the old battery and install the new battery.
4. Reconnect the positive lead to the battery.
5. Reconnect the negative lead to the battery.
6. Before starting the bike you will need to reset the throttle position sensor.
Turn on the key but don't start. Fully open and close the throttle, repeat.
Turn off the key. Restart as normal.

Thanks any suggestions on brand of battery. I have an interstate dealing right up the street from me.

I like the Panasonic battery that I purchased from Digikey.com. Good price and fast delivery. The LT uses the LC-X1220P.

I have a 03' LT and replaced my battery August 07, but I was unaware of the Throttle Position Sensor. The Motorcycle seems fine. Should I have or do I need to do a reboot?
411 Anyone?
Thanks,
Willow

would not worry about it now, no harm done if you don't do it

The motronic will soon relearn the throttle positions as you ride. My LT will have some initial difficulties idling if I forget to reset the TPS but it goes away with time. Resetting the TPS makes it less likely that you will stall the engine.

Glad this came up now. I'll probably have to replace mine soon. It went dead just sitting durning the two months I was recovering from my surgery. I put it on the charger, and it seems to be holding a charge, but it is the original battery, (in an 03) or at least I'm pretty sure it is.

In the past when I've pulled the battery out for service or replacement I've had a hard time getting the battery hold down back in the bike. It hasn't been mentioned so I guess I'm the only one but, getting the two screws to line up and started is a troublesome process. A good light and a pry bar helps. I use the pry bar to "gently" slide the battery to the right in the box. That seems to help lining up the left hold down screw. Access is hard because of the cable run along the left side of the battery and the rubber snubbers used on the screws. The right side seems easier as there is more room to wiggle. Be sure and not X-thread the screws.
