I am in the process of planning a ride to Alaska 2-up.
Departure will be around May 25th , and I am allowing 9 full days for an arrival in Anchorage on June 2.
From there it will be 10 Days riding/seeing Alaska and the Artic Circle, then Ferry back to Bellingham, Wa. out of Valdez or Seward?
We will then head down the West Coast to LA and across the lower tier of the US back to home. My only appointment will be with the Ferry on June 12th or whenever I make it for. Other than that it will be leisurely riding.

Now for the Help part.
Anyone who has done this before, what would be the better route through Canada to get to Alaska. There are a few roads, but I am not familiar with any of them. Also, will weather on an average be OK that time of year to get up there, or are there roads that should be avoided because of elevation and snow etc...Kind of weather to expect?

Any help is appreciated, and also, anyone having any experience with the Ferry system would also be welcomed.
Planning on getting a cabin as it is supposed to be a 5 day ride with stops. (I figure the stops should be good, allowing us to see the inner passage cities and rest up a little.)

Thanks in advance for any assist.

Did this one last year at basically the same time. I don't think you need to worry too much as far as weather goes but make sure you bring some decent rain gear.
You don't say where you are leaving from......... but I found that the best route was through Calgary (Alberta), Edmonton, GrandePrairie and then straight up the Alaska Hwy. Great trip - but try to ignore all the rumours that you will hear in advance such as : "take along extra gas, it's a long way between service stations" sure - if you think a long way is 65 miles. I filled up anytime I was down to half a tank and ended up giving my strapped on jerry-cans away. "don't take your LT on these roads, you should be renting a Dakar bike, your LT will be beat to hell before you get back" The only thing that would have been beaten is the fool who told me this - I've ridden on way worse roads in the lower states than I could find in Alaska (and Yukon). One word of caution, don't follow too closely behind motor-homes (there are tons of these) because if there is a good-sized pothole you don't have a chance of missing it.(don't ask how I know LOL).
My favorite though is "you have to book the ferry at least 6 months in advance". I don't know where I'm going to be 6 minutes in advance when I'm on holidays so I gave up on the idea of the ferry back to Bellingham. When I got to Haines on my way back I decided to stop at the ferry terminal to see if just maybe someone had cancelled their reservation which would allow my buddy and I to "sneak" our bikes on. I thought the girl at the ticket desk was going to piss herself laughing - she actually had tears running down her face and when she regained her composure stated " in the years I've worked here I've never seen the ferry booked to the point that you coulnd'nt put a dozen or more extra motor-cycles on". We then drove directly on to the waiting ferry for about $620. We didn't get a berth as the same helpfull girl advised that there are lots of couches and reclining leather chairs through-out the vessel as well as public showers - and again she was right.
PM me if you want more info.
