So I like to ride in the rain, and wouldn't you know it the unit goes tits-up. I have sent it in, but doubt they will fix it under warranty. Any similar situations out there?

I have a rain cover made of plastic over mine and it seems to be pretty waterproof so far.

Legal Speeding (http://www.legalspeeding.com) make two types of enclosures for radar detectors, among other items. One is a plastic clamshell case, not unlike the box you might find a bluetooth headset packaged in. The other is a thicker lexan-type box that is painted black save the front and back windows, and it screws together with security screws.
I suggest you visit their web site because I dono't think I'm doing a real good job of describing them. BTW, I use the Radar Box, which is the lexan type material.
For the record, I have no affiliation with legal speeding other than as a satisfied customer.

Hmmmm ... my escort is not waterproof either ... only an external waterproof housing would provide even water resistance. :histerica

I am certainly going to invest in a cover, "IF" Escort replaces it under warranty.
