My friend Scott ( Ducati ST4) called me up two weeks ago and said a few guys were getting together to ride down to Tombstone Arizona on Sunday the 21st for the infamous Helldorado Days. Although it is mostly for the tourists and families with young children, for us it was a "destination".

On Friday I called to confirm that the ride was still on. Scott stated that he thought that at least 5 bikes and up to 10 bikes might show up for the ride.

When we left Vail Arizona it was with 28 bikes ! Harleys including full bore choppers, crotch rockets of all makes and models, colors and sounds, A Kawasaki Dual Sport 750 that, (impressively), with two adults easily hit 90mph passing some other Harleys.

There was only one other BMW, a 94 K100. My full dress K1200LT seemed to be the feature attraction as I fielded questions like .. "and the flat screen TV goes where?" or "where's the couch?" and " how much more of an cost option was the other 2 wheels and the roof ?" my response usually included "depends on the ride destination and if the satellite dish would create too much wind resistance."

Taking the scenic way through Sonoita Arizona in 78-80 degree clear blue sky wine country really made for a fun and beautiful ride. (Yes..believe it or not, Southern Arizona has winery’s and vineyards producing great wine !)

Again, the greatest part was the cross mix and the easy blending of the riders and their bikes. A lot of new friendships were made yesterday. The next unofficial, unorganized ride…a vineyard and winery tour. (Tastings kept to a minimum !)
