I haven't read either of those bud...but I HIGHLY recommend these two DVDs for any rider.

'Long Way Around' is also a book...but I hear there's a lot of reading that comes along with it. :D

I good (but depressing) read is a book called Ghost Rider. Written by the drummer and lyricist of the rock band RUSH...Neil Peart shares how he deals with losing his daughter and wife within a year's time. I enjoyed it, as he definitely has a way with words. But it can be rather depressing at times.

Have to agree with Joe on Ghost Rider.

Anything Gregory Fraiser writes is pretty good. Not overly sophsticated and techinical. but usually a lot of common scence information and a bit of humor. Good homework when considering a long trip.

Long Way round DVD 4 stars Accompaning music CD I liked also. But music is very subjective. on your own here.

I have and read the Ron Ayres book. It has a lot of good tips. I check it over each spring before the riding season begins as a refresher. All of Ayres books are enjoyable and worth the read.

I have not read Frazier's book yet.

Another good place for long distance touring/touring tips is in the BMW ON magazine. Each month they run a listing of tips submitted by the membership.

Not strictly bike-centric but there are bikes featured in Dust to Glory, a nice Documentary/movie about the Baja 1000.
It's done by Dana Brown, son of Bruce, who brought us On any Sunday... another good stocking stuffer!

I have ON - already read it! I hate it that it doesn't even last a day. There are usually a lot of tips in there.

The Faster DVD looks cool - I love watching motogp. Watching those high sides really hurt. Plus, next thing you know I would be pulling the trunk off the LT and trying to drift around the corners in the neighborhood!

Another really good adventure riding book is "Investment Biker", buy Jim Rogers.

I also enjoyed "Storm", by Allen Noren. That one, as Neal Pert's book, can have some depressing moments, but overall is a really good read about a TOUGH trip.

Ditto on the Long Way Round. It was an excellent read.

As for the Ghost Rider, I couldn't finish it. It was way to depressing. The author, lost his daughter and then his wife just a few months apart. He then went on a bike tour from Canada to Mexico. I never got out of Alaska. I've heard good things about the book but I couldn't finish it.

Uh, check my avatar. It can be done. :) Though I don't recommend the drifting bit, as it can all go very wrong very quickly (just ask the guy on the K12GT that was behind me :().
