We complain alot about BMW ignoring the issues we have with the high frequency of final drive failures on our bikes, but Honda for one doesn't seem to be much better. The ST1300 site put together over 100 sworn affidavites from people complaining about excessive heat issues with their bikes and then sent them to the manufacturer. They even sent pictures of riders legs being burned right through their heavy riding pants. All they got back was a letter stating that the bike was up to design specs and then blowing them off. I wonder if Honda is taking a page out of BMW's playbook or is it vice versa?

I would say ALL manufacturers of all products do that to some degree. A few people can't make these big corporations do much of anything unfortunately.

I little story behind why I feel that way. I had a "wonderfull to me" 2004 R1200CL, for relax riding, riding with the wife, long distances. And I had a 2005 K1200S, for the canyons, solo rides, commutes, solo long weekends.

Two of the most unique and good looking motorcycles BMW has ever made as far as I am concerned. Well with that also came costs. Payments, tires, maintenance, insurance. So I thought you know I am going to buy a machine that does what both of my machines do well, but for less money, less maintenance, sold the ones I had and what was the first choice after some due consideration.

An ST1300. Picked one up, ABS, Sargent seat, Honda Line trunk, tall shield, wind deflectors and the pipes had been wrapped by the previous owner. Perfect machine. Handles well on the canyons is super confortable on the super-splab. Good two up, good luggage room and that cliche smooth Honda V4 and Trannie........

I did not even make my FIRST PAYMENT on that machine, it cooked me, legs, "cajones", everything from my ankle to my belly button was HOT as HELL after a 25 minute ride.............

So I sold the dang thing and bought me and LT (2006) use to have a (2002). Went back to the wonderfull machine I KNOW the LT is.

Sorry for the long story but my point here is:

Its a shame that such wonderfull machine as the ST 1300 is not outselling other bikes out there because of an issue that Honda refuses to fix. A fix that would really not cost them a lot of money. So I voted with my dollars!!!!

I had an ST1300 and I couldn't take the heat, either. It was awful. There, also, have been many people complain about high speed instability on the ST 1300, as well. In fact, a police officer in England was killed when his ST 1300 went into a high speed wobble. I like Honda's and always have. But, Honda has not stepped up to the plate and corrected what is, at least, uncomfortable, and, at most, dangerous, situation they have with the ST 1300.

I don't know if there were many complaints or not to BMW about the excessive engine heat from the K1100LT, but that was obviously one of the design changes in the K1200. The 1100's fans blow the heat right on your legs. Great on a cold day, but really sucks in the summer.

Obviously SOMEONE had an issue or it wouldn't have been changed in the new model. Maybe...just maybe the next time the LT gets a make over all of our pet issues will be taken into account.

Hey, I can dream, can't I?

A+ to Yamaha.
Taking care of a problem on the FJRs well after warranty expires.(excessive valve guide wear-"tickers")
Try that with a final drive.
