View Full Version : Smoke Question

I've noticed some smoke occasionally when starting my 2002 LT. Not real heavy, but noticeable especially if it's started in the garage.

I bought it about a month ago. 38k miles. Just completed a full 36k mile service at the local dealership here in Sparks, NV.

It seems to only smoke for a couple seconds when started cold and then only if it's been on the side stand for a while. I haven't paid enough attention to tell if this is consistent or not, but it seems being on the side stand is a factor.

Any ideas?

As soon as i posted this question I found the answer in several other places on the forum. This place is great. :)

Seems to be normal if you park it on the side stand. I guess I'll just make sure to use the center stand.

After you shut off the motor, just keep it upright or lean a little to the right for 20 seconds or so that'll mostly go away.

But it's perfectly normal for it to do it if you just kill the engine and put her on the side stand. All the oil won't drain back into the crankcase and a little will work it's way into the cylinders.

Normal...Normal

Every since I rode to Alaska, 12060 miles round trip, it quite doing the smokey start ups. Maybe I sat the rings pretty good after that trip. :)
