Squealing handlebars

Am I the only one that is having this problem>? Heres the deal whenever I turn the handlebars they squeal very loudly, and most annoyingly. Im not a mechanic but the noise appears to emnate from the center area where what would be an open space is covered by a plastic cover. Would sprayong some good old WD-40 get rid of the sound or somehow hurt it?

I spray Permatex Belt Dressing & Conditioner on the rubber strip that you see under the handle bars. The rubber strip goes around the center plastic. You'll see it. This seems to work for about 6 months and than I give it another shoot.

there's a rubber cover that's causing the squeak
and yes a little spray will stop it (for a while)
I wouldn't call it loud but it was annoying (at first)

now I don't even hear it anymore.

I just used some silicone based dielectric grease on mine when it started back in 04. I put some on my finger tip and smeared it around then turned the handle bars several times to distribute it around. I haven't needed to do it again yet. Nice and quiet. I assume the silicone had impregnated it self onto the actual rubber. This has worked on many squeaking weather strips on cars for years.

But it can be Tony - almost. Oh, OK - you do need to us a tad more than some silicone snot and your finger :D

Pull the pads. Lightly sand to "break the glaze", clean the rotor - maybe scotchbright or lightly sand to "braek the glaze", then do a proper "Bedding In" as described in several places around the site.

That should do it.

Of course, a few also get rid of the 'cow bell' or even the potential for same and replace worn pads and EBC rotor at the same time - resulting in only having to do a proper "Bedding In". done.

Got home from work and sprayed her up w/ the miracle lubricant and she's quiet as a church mouse...

I figure Il hafta re-spray on occasion but since this took all of 30 seconds I dont mind.
