I rode a friends GT today and noticed that when pulling away from stop, there was a distinct squeal from the clutch use.. It almost felt like a glazed clutch with a little bit of chatter, but mainly a squealing noise.

BMW Daytona told him this is normal for the GT.. This is the second one I've ridden and I don't remember the first one doing this.

Suggestions???

Suggestions???It is not normal for the GT, it would be a problem of some kind. With a wet clutch, I can't see how it would squeal or chatter.

Mine also does it occasionally and I was also told this is perfectly normal. Some of the K12S bikes make this noise as well.

Supposedly this is purely an annoyance thing and isn't damaging to the clutch plates. I hope not, as one of the reasons I changed from an LT was to get away from potential clutch problems.

There were some changes between the S and GT bikes that include a larger oil nozzle (that sprays on the clutch pack) and a shaft with a larger groove for more oil flow. Supposedly my '07 already has these changes from the factory, but it still makes the noise sometimes.

I was also supposed to have the new center stand stops, yet my stand still failed so go figure.

I saw a sticker on a Ducati: Loud clutches save lives.

My '07 GT also occasionally makes this noise. It's not getting worse. It doesn't bother me.

My 07 does it too. It started around 4k and BMW-NA proclaimed it is totally normal. I switched from BMW branded oil (spectro) to recommended Castrol (non-syn) at 9k and it still does it on rare occasion. Usually when the bike is well warmed up and during city stop and go. I can actually feel it sometimes to in addition to the sound. It never slips though that's for sure. If i was on my old GPz Turbo i would be replacing the clutch plates by now.
