I'm just a point and shoot photographer,
don't have the smarts or the patience to do the technical stuff.
Sometimes on a long straight road I'll "snap" a few pic's over the windshield,
to the left and right, into the mirrors etc. etc.
This time a couple of them actually turned out,
you can even see the road "fore and aft"

Not bad Hans. I like the reflection of the camera in the first photo. You should participate in the weekly photo assignment at the bmwmoa forum.

Like the mirror shot. You see the background first,
then the 'blur of concrete' border, put life into the shot.
Nice shot.

That wasn't central Florida was it? ;)
Very Good job Hans!
I have always wanted to try and do that but I have this recurring picture in my head of my camera hitting the road at 70mph!

This past summer I finally got up the nerve to try some shots "on-the-move" while attending the 3rd West Virginia MountainFest event in Morgantown WV. I was kinda nervous about it, not so much about dropping the camera (a Cybershot DSW100 P&S) as I was about having to let go of it in case I needed both hands on the bars and it banging on the side of the LT. then I found that the wrist strap was short enough to keep it clear. so the hardest part was the fact that the release button is on right side and I was shooting left-handed. that just guessing at where it was pointing, even with the fairly large display I wasn't going to spend a lot of time trying to frame considering the roads we were on, as you shall see in the photos!
I was there mostly because they have a lot of vintage stuff going on, several rides, a great display and the last two years a vintage race thru the streets down by the river near the event hotel, which was formerly a Radison. that and the fact that Morgantown is one of my favorite destinations.
On Sat I went along for the vintage bike ride for bike made after WWII though we had a few pre-war machines along (and me on the LT since I didn't take my 78 as planned).
this is my favorite, taken looking back thru the mirror

once I got used to it it was kinda fun.

I picked up a Vivatar at Wally world, I wanted something inexpensive to carry on the bike, so if it dropped not out much and can be replaced easily.
It came with a rather long strap, allowing me to wear it around my neck, so I dont worry much about dropping it, and if I need to get my hand back on the handle I just let go and it returns to my chest.

I use a double strap which gives me a full arms lenght and I can move around easy with out it getting caught on anything. One thing I have found over the past 4 years of doing this is to tape the controls to the postion you want them, (they will move) have extra charged batterys with you, use a big card and have a back-up card, turn off the monitor to conserve your batterys, hold the camera the same way in the plam of your hand, and practice before hand using the "gun fighter" point and shoot style, take lots of pic's from different angles. This will give you some great pic's and you will be able to look at a scene while riding compose the pic in you minds eye and capture it with the camera! Even normal ones like this (at 80mph) become great pic's!
