Central Locking Problem

While on the road over last weekend I, in all my brilliance, allowed the battery to drain almost to the point of extinction. Jumped the bike and got started, rode alot to charge (broke my heart) and had no further problems, except the central locking system is locked and will not open. The security system and everything else is back operational. Tried the fob in all directions and various button holding sequences and durations. Still no luck. Got into the bags with the 45 degree trick except for the odements box. Checked the owners manual....no info....tried searching the site but saw nothing quite like this....

Try pressing down lightly on the latch for the oddiments box while cycling the central locking. This is a known issue that sometimes comes up.

Is the battery completely charged now? If not, charge it and then try to unlock again.

If you hit the lock hard enough it will open. I used the rubber covered end of a hammer handle to open mine. I know, a real man could use his fist.

Well if he is pressing the fob and the alarm is cycling and the central locking is not his alarm is toast as they are one and the same.

Had the same problem with my '06. In this case the whole central locking system went U.S and my bike was towed away by the dealer. Still under warranty they had to replace the entire C/L unit.

The team at MAX BMW in NH made a mistake which resulted in a similar problem on my 05LT. Their fix was simple given it happened in a nice warm, well lighted, comfortable garage with every possible tool available.

Given all of that, the tool of choice was a set of leads for an AC/DC tester and a couple of alligator clips. This really is a two person job (unless you have four hands that is).

Under the passenger seat (yes you have to remove it, carefully push a long rag wrapped screwdriver in between the seats to "pop" the release. Be extremely careful or you'll be riding to the dealership to buy a new seat). There is a small plug, about 1/2" wide and 2" long, right in front of the coupling for the rear audio. It has two wires in and two out. Take one lead connected to your battery positive post (use alligator clips for that end) and insert the end of the lead to the right side of plug connector. Do the same with a lead from the negative post. You should hear the central locking try to activate or deactivate. The other person will need to push down on any of the locks at the same time. If this does not work try reversing the leads at the plug end.

This whole thing took about 1 minute while I watched at the dealership. I tried it myself at home in the garage to see If I could repeat. It worked! The main issue is, the alarm can not be activated. This "hot wire" will only work on the central locking system not the immobilizer system. For that you must have the fob. Good luck!

Thanks for that but I don´t understand why, if they had a key at hand, they didn´t do the quarter turn trick to open the left hand side case to get at the knob that releases the seat.

My confused reading habit kicked in.

I thought you could not unlock the bags at all. Yes if you can "key" the lock of the left side you could just open the bag that way. But from there you can "trick" the locking system to reseting itself.

Same thing just happened to me, but before I explain how I solved it, did you have the key and the fob with you at the time ?.
