I just found out that I have to be in St. Louis on the 17th-19th and I would LOVE to take the LT.... HOWEVER, she needs her 48K service....and financially....I am not in a position to take her to the dealer for it, as they are saying 1400 here in SPrings, and 1100 in Denver. Not to mention I have cameras, DVR, Relays, Auxiliary crap....etc. So...I am going to have to disassemble all of this in my garage tonight...to get it in the dealership in the morning....but if I can get someone to come to the house and show me how to do the 48k service some time this week, or this weekend, I will gladly pay for hotel, or you can have my guest room, etc. If someone can come....please confirm, and let me know so I can cancel the appt at the dealership, as I will be forcing a lot of things to make the financial meets of the dealership.
Also if you can give me a list of all parts needed I will go to dealership today or tomorrow to get them..!!

Bill,
You can stop along the way here in Dallas and we can get it done. You can also pick up the trailer at the same time. :)

Cut me that sweet deal on trailer....and you got a DEAL!!!

1400 or 1100? Wow and I thought that the $850 they want (in Northern VA) to do mine for the 48K was pricy!
Good luck, I'll be interested in hearing how hard it was to do. I can handle most work on my 78 R100, but then everything so easy to get to.

Kinda along the way. If you'd rather spend your time and money at the dealer, then Dallas is a lot out of the way.

Bill out side of an oil change I wouldn't worry about it if it was me. Unless something out of the ordinary has occurred then evey thing should be fine as long as the valves were checked at the 36K. A couple of thousand extra miles shouldn't hurt anything on an LT with 49 K on it.
Now this is just MHO after completing a lot of 12K services on LT's over the last 5 years at the HDDC tech sessions. The above statement is not a guaranty that nothing will go wrong but the BMW schedule is a bit over cautious.

I gotta agree - I know these things take due care, but they are machines. They don't have 'timer chips' on 'em that break things if you go a few thou over on maintenance items.
Other than oil - just get it all done within reason. So long as it does get done!

I'd be happy to come down and help you on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. I haven't changed buckets but everything else is piece of cake. Find out what the service calls for, pick up parts and let me know. I need to check mine out as well, perhaps get two done at the same time. I have 68k now but will do whatever it needs.

Cause I blew right past it this summer .......

right at about 2-2.5k miles ago, I had new tires, new brakes front and rear, all fluids, and about 6k miles ago, I did the brake bleeding front and rear.
Other than that...I am not sure...I know the Valves are the main thing...and i have no clue on that...
Deputy.... Do you think I would have time to have you help me install some Mini HID lights that mount below mirrors? If so...I can bring them with me. Raffy says 1.5hour for install.

The 48K service is NOT that big of a deal.
You probably won't be able to bleed the brakes or do the valve check, but if the valves were ok or adjusted at 36K you're not going to need it again at 48K.
Just change the oil in the engine, trans, and rear drive. Put in some new plugs and take your trip... Don't worry about the other stuff. It can hold for a few thousand miles.
When was the last time you changed the air filter? When I looked at mine it was almost as clean as the new one. I opted not to change it at 36K because it just wasn't dirty..
I agree that the BMW maintenance schedule is just a "little" over cautious.
Can you say Profit Generator ?
Have a good trip.
Good Luck,
John

I will have to check and see....
But I am not sure WHAT was done at the 36K...I didn't own it, I got it at the 38k area...
BMW of Denver had it...and I am sure they can provide records...
But I know I want to change the Air filter, fuel Filter, Spark Plugs, adjust Valves...etc. I am not so worried about fluids as Synthetics went in less than 3K ago.
Dep, I will call you!

Dep, I will call you!You may be due for a coolant change as well.
You flushed the brakes fluid, but did you also flush the clutch fluid?
Other than that you should be OK, and as others mentioned the maintenance schedule is just a rule of thumb and I doubt anything will break because you are a bit over on miles...

Bill:
I would not be overly concerned about being 1K over on the service schedule. I rode my 2002 LT a little over 11,000 miles the last couple of weeks of August this year and serviced it before I left and did not do anything except check the oil levels until I got back home.

Bill,
If you don't get it done before you leave, give me a call when you get to STL. I can sit down with you and walk you through the service so you can try it yourself. I'm coming up on my 84K service and thinking about trying to do it that following weekend.

If I don't get it done before I leave.... I will drive the cage.... It just seems to me, that the night I left Tony's back in April to come back home...the bike was acting "funny"....it could have been that I was on the tail end of my 7500 miles in 14 days.... OR that it was 2-3am...and I was exhausted.
I did drive it about a month or so later to Denver, and was coming home with the trailer on the bike....and was going up hill...into a wind..(trailer and cases empty) and I remember having throttle wide open....and losing speed....and was around 70mph....
I then putzed around town 1 other day about 2weeks later and she ran fine, but I have yet to get her at highway speeds since that day to Denver and back.
Would hate to see the valves are out, and possibly ruin something on the way to Tony's...but i would be coming down without a trailer....and since Texas is south...that means downhill the hole way :D
I just know at Tony's he can help me and explain the process...and as Cfell suggested....that after I learn I can get a viking lift and do it myself.
Not to mention the HID install, GPS replacement, from stock to 2610....
Thanks guys!

Dep,
I know I haven't called you yet.... send me a PM and let me know what day(s) you want to do this....I will not be installing the HIDs... just a GPS swapout.
Who all is coming? What is everyone wanting to do?
I want to get everything that I can completed.
Buy parts there? Buy parts online and overnight? What is best??

Ok..
Bike has 2600-2800 miles on all fluids in bike...and all are synthetics. Front to rear.
Deputy isn't going to be around this weekend...so I am reversing my order... leaving COS to Chi to StL then to DLS. on Saturday morning... so if any of you would like to meet up for Coffee...ride...etc.. let me know. 910.583.5945
Colorado Springs to Chicago leaving the 13th, straight through(another SS1K) to Chicago. Will leave Chicago on the 16th for St. Louis, then will leave St. Louis on the 19th for Deputy's.
SO Cfell, come see us!! You keep Tony distracted while I steal his 05LT and Uni-go.....

Why don't you give them a call and get some $$ info. They're rather new and looking for business, and have some "good techs" or so I've heard, on staff. Just my $.02.
