Isn't it strange. For many many years we in the free world looked in horror at all the stories of 'citizens' reporting their fellow citizens to the authorities of the Eastern Bloc countries and the punishments handed out to the transgressors or dissenting citizens by the same authorities for the most minor of crimes.
It would seem that we in the so-called free world are heading the same way. You cannot make jokes that might offend anyone. Our email and phones are routinely monitored. Cameras are everywhere, even talking cameras now, so the operator can tell you off. And apparently there are 657 different public bodies who can legitimately ask for transcripts of any calls/texts/e.mails you may have sent.
I think I'll join Borat in Kazakhstan....
