OKay...OKay...I drooled on it too! http://www.sport-touring.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/drool.gif
Wow! It's going to be very difficult to keep from buying one of these bike. The 'S' is nice . . . but the 'R' is, well . . . you know!
But I did notice something just a leeetle strange. When the steering is at full-lock to the left, the brake cables go in-front of the speedo and/or tach. Wouldn't surprise me if they wear at the plastic trim of the guages. Just found it a little poor in the engineering department. Like they should've put some kind of guard or retainer wire there, or something...

Just in case you want to lurk in another forum.

You've probably already been there but it's there for anyone who wants some K12S, K12R, or K12GT info.

BMW has already issued a bulletin for the dealers to correct this by replacing the brake line and also the gauge cover if it is scratched. No charge under warranty of course...

So I guess this means that Raffy will be heading over to the ever-so-comprehensive k-bikes.com, and we'll never hear from him again?! :D
(At least if/when I buy my 'R', I'll still keep my LT! Jeez! Traitor!!!) ;)

Yes. Can't have all three. The Duc was a 'steal'. I'll get an LT again when the new one comes out and a year has passed. 2008?

I just figured maybe the Remus cans for the R came in a two pack, so there was really nothing else you could do . . . :)

Joe:
Rode about 300 miles today from twisties, to sweepers, up and down hills etc.
If you are NOT serious about buying one, do not take the bike out for a test ride. It took me all of about 175-200 miles to get comfortable enough to start pushing the bike in the corners. This bike is solid and it will pull in 6th gear from about 2200 rpm and up without skipping a beat.
Bonus....38-45 mpg while breaking it in.

Are you noticing any buzziness or vibrations in the pegs and grips? I'm asking, because I noticed this on my test rides of the 'S' (3 different bikes) and it has me concerned. Primarily, it showed-up at about 75 to 80mph in 6th gear.
I'm extremely excited for you man. I have 3 magazines currently in my "library". All with that BEAST on the front cover. Man! That's a gorgeous machine!!!

Yes I did notice that. Don't remember exactly what the speed was. Talked with Bill Turner (BillyOmaha) and he said he had it too but the Remus can has removed some of it. Wonder if a complete system with headers would eliminate this just like on the LT's 4500-4800 RPM buzz.
Other than the buzz, it is an awesome bike.

From Motorcyclist Magazine (found this online via Google search for BMW K1200R)
"Most of the time the twin-balancer-equipped engine is pleasantly smooth, with just enough of a high-rev rasp to provide some character. As with the K1200S, though, there's a patch of intrusive vibration between 6000 and 7000 rpm, which equates to about 100 mph in top gear and tingles the pegs and blurs the otherwise good mirrors when rolling off the throttle. I didn't find the vibes a problem, but it would very likely become annoying cruising at a steady speed. But I wasn't the only rider to notice the vibration was more pronounced on the way back, after the bikes had been thrashed around the circuit all day. Hopefully this doesn't mean the R will feel like a bag of nails after 10,000 hard miles."

I want one. Someday it will be good bye to K1200RS. The K1200LT is a keeper for good. K1200R -"What a bike".

Howdy Joe,
As Raffy mentioned, the Remus can did reduce the buzziness a bit, but it was not the primary mitigating factor.
Right after I took my first long ride on the bike, 350 miles in a day and my hands wouldn't stop "tingling", I bought a set of "heavy" Throttlemeisters. The added weight on the grips dramatically cuts down on the vibration.
The next biggest contribution to reducing the numbness from the vibration was getting used to the tremendouse accelleration so I could bring myself to loosen my grip. With the bar weights, open can and a relaxed grip the buzz is not setting the limit on time in the saddle.:D
I have 3 magazines currently in my "library". All with that BEAST on the front cover. Man! That's a gorgeous machine!!! Joe, I don't say this too often, but I TOTALLY agree with you on that!!;)

Thanks for the info. I have ThrottleMeisters on my Ninja, and really like them. Glad to hear that helps a lot on the 'R'.
