I don't know what they're called, but where does one get the U.S. (or other country) map that you can fill in the states/provinces you've visited? Some people have this as part of their signature line. I think it's an interesting idea.

Here (http://www.epgsoft.com/VisitedStatesMap/) is one but I know there are others.

Another (http://douweosinga.com/projects/visitedstates) one.

Another (http://www.world66.com/myworld66/visitedStates) one.

Another (http://www.travelblog.org/VC/visited-us-states.html) one.

Another (http://www.interactivemaps.org/visited_states/) one.

Heck do a Google on - states visited map - and they come in a bunch. LOL

That works.

Now... I've created the map and saved it, but how do I insert it into my signature? I went to the User CP page but am not sure how to get the picture there.

<edit>It seems that the first site you provided the link to lets you save the map as a file only; the other sites let you copy/paste the code into our signature -- that must be the way to go. I'll do some experimenting, but if have other tips please share. Thanks.

<edit2>It's working.

Looks better now...I can see the map, but man is it HUGE!I'll fix that tomorrow night. I need to resize it, resave the file on the web site, and then relink it. It should be easier...

I've been to 46 states and several countries, but on the bike to only those states currently pictured in my signature. CCR '06 and '07 are to thank for most of those. I've only been riding 2 years; give me more time!

Another way to show where you’ve visited is Bob’s BMW “Keep Score (https://store.bobsbmw.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=64)” t-shirt.http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

So, what's the etiquette with those maps around here?

Must you have been to those colored states on your LT (BMW) or just been to those states?
Does visiting on any bike count?
For that matter, does it have to be on a bike?
Time frame? We talk'n lifetime here or just the past calender year?
Does a corner shot count? (4 corners visit count as 4 states?). Possibly just cutting across some state on the way to someplace else?
Maybe have to have spent a night or eaten a meal?
Would just buying gas count?
How 'bout a certain amount of time? Minimum 2 hours within some state's boarders? Maybe Days instead?
I mean, what're we trying to say here?

(If anyone thinks these are full up serious questions, it's a sign you need to be visiting more states - on your bike. There's still a chance this year, winter hasn't set in too hard, yet. <g> )

How about if you are lost!
Man you guys make me jealous, all your colors.
I'd do good with a Michigan map and just fill in the counties.
I gotta figure a way to get some more spare time.

Well in that case mine won't be near as colorful. I'm going by if my bike went to the state. My goal someday is to go to every city Johnny Cash mentions in "I've been everywhere" and take a good picture of it with my bike and make a video.

Howard,

I know you rode the Dragon when you were at STC so you need to add Tenessee to your list as most of it is in that state!

Howard,

I know you rode the Dragon when you were at STC so you need to add Tenessee to your list as most of it is in that state!Uh, I knew that... :o

Thanks!

Regarding the "protocol" question, my take is this (FWIW): If I rode a motorcycle in that state (any road, any length of time), it counts. So far, at least, every state I've been to in the bike I've been there for extended hours of riding, if not overnight. But if somebody wants to zip through every state in 100 hours or something I'll still consider that state "covered".

yea - stacked tags

<url to 1st pic><url to 2nd pic><url to 3rd pic>

That'll put 3 pics side by side - s'long as the viewers browser is wide enough.

And you can drop carriage returns in there to make 'em take up more vertical space

<url to 1st pic>
<url to 2nd pic>
<url to 3rd pic>

Just remember - adding lots o pics to sigs can make some folks cranky. Be nice, k?

another thing is you can open it in paint and resize it under "image". I think I did mine 50%. Makes it a bit smaller and you can still read it. Should keep the signature haters happy.

Hey don't feel too bad, I've been riding since 70 (in the states anyway) and have yet to make it past the Miss. River! Been all up and down the east coast and almost made it past the Miss. river 2 years ago but decided to head south instead Once I made it to Cinncinatti! Oh well... but then I didn't have anything newer than a 78 til last fall, ( I know I know, poor excuse :) )...

Meanwhile my SO has been cross-country twice and she's only been riding 7 years! (but I got WAY more s-miles!).

not that its a contest or anything... :D
