Travel plans

We are planing on driving out to Jamestown, NY which is just south of Buffalo, for the Christmas holidays. No, not on the bike. But we are looking at taking two nights out, three days driving to just take it easy and maybe see some sights. Thinking about a first night in either Omaha,NE or Kansas City,MO. The Jazz interests us in Kansas City. What are your thoughts on what to see/do in these towns and recommendations on places to stay/music places to hang out at, hotels or B&B's. Second night in Chicago area. The art museum has a draw for me.

I would pick Kansas City for sure over Omaha. They have a wonderful holiday light display and although I don't have any names I know they have some great places to stay and eat all right in this same area as the light display.

There is a lot a stuff that goes on at Country Club Plaza and the Westport areas. If you are hitting is on a weekend it will probably be tough to get a room - the area usually gets pretty book up during Holiday weekends. The Rapheal is a nice small hotel in the area - it can get a little pricey though
