Anyone here install an HID kit in a K12RS? I met a guy with an RS while riding at night through some mountains, and now he must have an HID. I'm willing to help him install it, but I'm not familiar with how much space is under that fairing.

Any ideas or even pics would be helpful. Also, is there a web page that explains how to disassemble the RS plastic like there is for the LT? I don't believe he has a shop manual.

One of the members of the San Diego club put HID in his RS after he saw mine, so there must have been no problems.

I will PM his email address to you so you can contact him directly.

I had the same HID kit installed in both my K1200RSs that was in my K1200LT. No problems. According to my installer (the mechanic at my dealership), it's easier to install in the RS than the LT.

Ken:

It's easier than the LT. Should have no problems.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I'll forward the info to my friend, and let him decide when to do the install.

David, I've been emailing with Mike. He's been very helpful, and I think I convinced him to get the CQLight HID setup for his LT.

I'm surprised that he has not already put HID in the LT. He was GREATLY impressed with HID in his RS.

I think he was a bit put off by the cost, but the CQLight kits are cheap enough that he's now going to do both.

belga1976 (what a funny name ;)),

There's more info in this post (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=17985#post17985). The single bulb kits run about $111 each. I don't know what your dealer may charge for an install, but it should only be an hour or two at the most. Or you could contact the fine folks at Rehder's LT Resort and see if you can find a date that works for y'all.

Lots of info in our Accessories; Lighting (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=81) forum. Check this thread (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2709), and this thread (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3334&highlight=cqlight), and this thread (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2403&highlight=cqlight).

I'm about to order a CQLight HID for a friend in the UK, and I'm getting a set for my wife's car as well. I could add one more to the order if you're interested, Craig. Heck, I'd even help you install it, as you're just down the road from me.

Can anyone confirm what headlight bulbs an '02 K12RS uses? Is it the same H7 low beam and H3 high beam as the LT?
