Hi all,

Bought a 7 Pin din male and female connector today so's I can add earbuds to my Autocom system.

I found the Autocom pin out diagram in the forum here, and now I need to know:

Earbuds use 3 wires - negative is common to left and right.

Autocom uses separate negatives, so it's four wire.

If I take the four to three, will I introduce any noise?

I don't want to pay $84 for two Autocom parts # 1187

Also, since your answering, can you add the $4 Rat-Shack Isolation Transformer to a stereo cable to solve any noise problems? If so, which wires?

If not, is there a stereo version you all use?

Thanks.

Mike,
You need a few more parts, but before I get in trouble from Autocom, their cable is excellent quality and worth the money. I have one and it will most certainly out last my home-made cable. However, I am cheap, and when my wife wanted to use her buds, I built the second cable. Attached is the diagram.

I assume you are connecting a audio device for music that is powered from the bike battery. This can cause noise problems due to ground loops created from the different power connections. The cheap RS isolation transformer is not suited for high quality audio (good for voice quality though), and is not stereo. You will need a real stereo isolation transformer designed for music applications. The Autocom part works well, but also any isolation transformer from a car stereo supplier will work (the type used for external amplifiers), but these will have the wrong connectors and you will have to cut the cables and install new connectors (or use a bunch of adapters....ugly!). RS does sell one of these, their part number 270-054, for $16.99.

Hope this helps,

Less than 12 hours later I have my answer.

AWESOME.

I'll make one and let you know how it comes out.

Thanks SO much.
