I've always had trouble with "diagonal lines" and "diagonal color differences" in stitched panoramas, using various photo editing programs. My standard program is Photoshop Elements...I'm no pro...which does a creditable job of matching the photos, but color matching and exposure are always a problem. Today I discovered a freeware program called Autostitch which does a perfect job on the color/exposure, and I can save it as a jpeg and then tweak in Pshop Elements. It's worthwhile to read the never-do-it README file, as it makes suggestions on option settings which really help, such as how to keep your file sizes, rather than having them radically compressed.

It's a demo, and thus is a little buggy, has crashed a couple of times, but I'm VERY impressed and happy with the results.

Here's the link: http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html

Ditto. I've been using Autostitch for over a year, and it just plain works. It's an amazing piece of software, and it's great that you can have it for free. I've had absolutely no problem with it crashing. I wonder if you're running out of swap space on your PC? I imagine it's pretty memory intensive, although I haven't checked.

Here are my two pano contributions.
