It has been the hottest summer on record here in NC, USA, but just a few days ago we began to get some Fall weather. It has been in the 70's during the daytime and down to about 59 at night. Can't help thinking about some of you boys up north....
How cold has it gotten where you live?

Down to the upper 30's one night last week. I actually like riding in the cooler weather. Had to put the liner in the jacket and switch to winter gloves a couple mornings on the way to work. The bike seems to run better and as long as your dressed for it the ride is comfortable.

Had an overnight low of 38f here last week. Usually lower to mid 40s.
Forcast is for snow on the mountain this weekend. Put 'paid' to this year's fire season - I hope.

I had 41 on the way to work on Monday.
Speaking of temps: A few months ago I started keeping track of weather stats on my commutes to work -- starting temp, arriving temp, general weather conditions (sun, rain, etc.) and the gear I'm wearing. It's interesting to watch the patterns, what gear works best at what temps, etc. No OCD here, just curiousity.

It has been a mild summer overall in the Peoples Republik of Southern Kalifornia. We had one week in July and one week in the beginning of September where we burned our balls off, but otherwise, not to bad. After the last heatwave broke, it was fall the next day and getting into the fifties at night! Go figure....

I ride 110 miles round trip every day to work, and for the last 2 weeks, it has been mid to upper 30's when I head out in the morning. tops out at mid 60's-low 70's during the day, but fall is certainly coming quick.
have a ride planned on Sunday to Height of Land (moosehead lake region)
http://gonewengland.about.com/od/mainesightseeing/ig/Height-of-Land-Photo-Gallery/index.htm
we have 10 bikes going, and I expect that 2 or 3 will not wear heavy enough clothes, and will have to make a u-turn on the way up the mountain
I normally ride down to about 15-20 degrees, as long as there is no ice on the roads. Last year I stored the bike for 6 weeks (in Maine mind you...) :histerica

Here in the Chicago area (well, way west of the city), we're getting 50 degree temp swings from the 30's to the 80's. What you wear in the morning under the mesh is not going on in the afternoon.
Have fun,

I don't think we've seen the 30s yet. It's been great! This summer has been the best north-ohio summer I think I've ever experienced.

Around San Jose the coolest we've had so far is about 55 degrees. But last weekend while riding around the Sierras we woke up to 36 one morning, and were late getting around LAke Tahoe and it was down to 38 then. Of course, I was silly enough to wear my summer mesh gear, so I just about froze my nuggets off! :D

A couple weeks back, we were on our way to the Black Hills, the temp never got above 49F (assuming we can believe the BC). Had the liners plugged in. Met a number of riders of non-fared bikes who were less comfortable the we - one fellow's lips were blue!

Probably around 55 or so in SC. I took a ride this morning with the wife on the K1200LT, and it was 60 when we left, 72 when we returned. I actually like riding in the fall and spring more than summer. Been riding my ZX11 to work, and it's definitely not as protected as the BMW. But it's faster! :D

How cold is it? In Kansas City its gonna get real cold but who cares? This summer was hot. Swamp hot. AMAZON HOT.
My helmet still smells like funky head. I had just bought my new R1200RT and could not stop riding it. ATGATT they harped at me!! Never had a cycle with a thermometer on it, mine said 108 degrees. I stopped for water four times a much as gasoline.
I even found myself reading articles on motorcycle UNDERWEAR of all thngs! Big mistake! Some genius highly recommended silk boxers under my riding pants. Now I know why turkeys cook up all juicy in those roasting bags.
How cold is it? NOT COLD ENOUGH!

Orange County, CA:
Low 60's (F) during the 5:30 AM commute. High 80's for the 5:30 PM commute. It was 92 (F) Sunday afternoon at 3:00, according to the temp guage on my KGT. Still wearing summer gloves and a Venting Machine jacket. Clothes are jeans and a short-sleeved shirt. A little brisk in the morning, a little warm in the afternoon.
Still haven't found a need for winter gloves, my heavy leather jacket, or the heated grips and seat. I'm looking forward to using the heated grips and seat once or twice this year. :-)
I prefer cool or cold. I used to live (and ride) in British Columbia. People here in Orange County would laugh at what they call a "heat wave" up there.
Q: What do they do during the summer in British Columbia?
A: If it comes on a Saturday, then they have a picnic.

As they say, if you don't like the weather in New England, wait a minute.
Two weeks ago, I was riding into work (60 miles each way) with temps in the low 30's. Afternoon commute was in the 80's. I found myself riding in with full liner jacket, longjohns, neck warmer and a full face, and riding home in my summer mesh jacket and 3/4 open face helmet.
This weekend calls for temps up in the mid 80's again. I had to explain to Telle that the "honey do" list will be put on temporary hold this weekend - we're going for a ride!

Yes, true genius, Tom. Silk breathes better than cotton, BUT, not up to the task of 100 degree plus riding days.
Try 5.11 tactical briefs (not boxers). Best wicking EVER!
I'm to much of a pussy to ride in the cold. I'll leave that to the other guys.

Two weeks ago I was on my way to Washington and spent the night in Rock Springs, WY. As this was a totally unplanned trip all I had for clothes was shorts and T-shirts. Was 26 degrees at 6:00 when I headed out. Heated seats in a cage feel good too sometimes.

..it's about 88* right now, may cool down to the mid 70's if we get a thunderstorm.
We got hit pretty good yesterday around 5 pm, I know there were quite a few soggy bikers up in Daytona.
Don't think I'll go up there this weekend, Daytona BMW is not having a sale on tires like they did in the bikeweek event last winter. Just 20% off in stock items....not worth going..LOL

Well, we had a few weeks of fall weather in this beautiful socialist utopia known as Southern Kalifornia. Now, the Santa Ana's are here (more evidence of Gore's global warming) and it's like Summer again (mid 90's).

Up in the north of Sweden the snow has been fallen but in the south between the lakes Vänern and Vättern where I live, we went out for a ride in 39 degrees. We enjoy the heating in the handles and seats.

51 here in the Heart Of Dixie last night, not to nitpick BUT according to the National Climate Data Center this summer in your area was the third (3rd) hottest on record, 1936 hottest, 1934 second.

We've had everything from 30 degrees to 80 degrees in the last 3 weeks. Coming off of my old unfaired HD, I was thrilled to see that I could ride my GT comfortably at temps in the low 40's.
Do any of you have a low temp point where you feel your tires are too cold to offer proper traction? I recently overheard a shop owner say that they don't ride below 40 degrees for that reason.

On my morning ride to work this week it has been in the mid 30s. With full face helmet, leathers over work clothes, heated seat and handles it it quite comfortable. As long as the road is dry I will ride. I do not like the road covered in frost and one has to watch for fallen wet leaves on the road also. Other than that I am good for another 5-6 weeks yet this season.
