My experience....Bad dealer lets you hang around forever......Good dealer tells/shows you the price outta the gate!!1

And I'm sure they'll deal.

Bad dealer does not ask if anyone has helped you? Find out what you're interested in (if anything). Give you a business card. Tell you right upfront what they want $$ for the bike.

if you're talking BMW motorcycles...the only time I've seen a dealership sell for anything less than what's on the tag is if it was a demo bike, if it's say an '06 and the '07's just hit the floor as well, or if they happen to be way overstocked on a particular model. Otherwise, it's pretty much standard that what the tag says is what it costs.
If you're decent to them, they may cut you a deal on a new helmet, or extend the warranty, but even with other brands it's fairly unusual for price haggling on a new bike.
If you're trading in a used bike, THERE'S where you can negotiate. A little, not much, but a little.
www.cycletrader.com is a good resource, actually. If you find the make and model you really like go there. When I was looking at FJR's and ST1300's a year ago, the local Honda dealership that just opened a HUGE new shop was selling ST1300's for almost a grand OVER MSRP, gave me a load of crap about how that was "the best price in 100 miles." 30 seconds on cycletrader.com, looking ONLY at dealerships, and I found three Oklahoma dealerships that had the identical bike for $300 under MSRP.
In TX, you pay the same tax on in- or out-of-state vehicle purchases, so that wasn't an issue. Had I bought one of those bikes, that would have saved me a BIG chunk of change.
Otherwise, unless it's a past-year model or a special sale, or demo, it's awful rare to get a motorcycle for less than MSRP (until recently, a harley dealership that sold for MSRP was rare to find, actually), and it's not like auto dealerships who deliberately mark up the "sticker price" in anticipation of negotiation of price.

Not always true. I got a new K1200GT at considerably less (way more than $1000 off from suggested retail). The catch was that I had to buy it before 4:00 PM on 30 June; I had one day to decide. The bike had the color and options that I wanted; it was an offer I couldn't refuse. My guess is that the salesperson needed the sale to make a quota or get a bonus. Because I bought it by the end of June, the deal included BMW's $500 in free accessories offer, too.

Go back on Sept 29th and see if they have a similar deal! Had a similar experience buying a new 1990 BMW 525 on New Year's Eve. Best deal I ever got!

Jimbo, I would buy from the dealer that will take the best care of you after the sale, in your best judgement. We've all dealt with the dealer that gave you a really great price, BUT would not know customer service if it hit them over the head!
