Being 'bikeless' at the moment I jump at anything to keep me up to date - well I have just finished watching the adventures of Ewen McGregor and Charley Boorman on their 20,000 mile trip to New York From London via Various European countries such as Ukraine and Russia through Mongolia and Siberia then a plane to Alaska through Canada down to Montana onto New York.
If you ain't seen it then go and get it and see just what a BMW can do (OK not a K1200LT) but a GS 1150.
Ted Newman Cold and snowy London, England but off to warm and sunny Cyprus tomorrow.

Unfortunately, we have to hack into our DVD players to use DVDs from the UK.
Same for the other way around.

Believe me the wait for the USA standard DVD (actually there are three in the pack) is worth the while - watch it over Christmas when the big K is locked up and see those guys go places you wouldn't even want to walk - even the wife was enthralled and kept saying 'when are we going to watch the next episode.'

I've watched the series several times now, loved the adventure and loved the mateship.
Jen and I had a photo (attached) taken last weekend, some of you will recognise the subject...

Cool pic Daz!!! http://www.bigbikeworld.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif Would love to meet either one of those guys!!! (or both!) I DVR'ed 'Long Way Around', but still plan on buying the DVDs. I think they did an awesome job at capturing adventure touring on film. Even if it was done "millionaire style". http://www.r1-forum.com/gallery/images/wink.gif

Got both shortly after the series was aired. Would not play in the DVD but would play in the good old PC running win 2000XP.
There have been some write ups in magazines about others doing a similar trip. Seems like a brutal trip.
Good series some have thrown some darts at the series, but I say do the trip then if you still feel like it throw the dart. Adventure is truly difficult if not impossible to capture on film "at the moment".
I enjoyed the series. Was hoping there would be "more" in the unedited UK version but just some unbeeped words.
Just looking foward to a trip to Alaska or around the US. on the LT in 06 or 07 depends on the cash flow.

I rented the US compatible DVD's from netflix two weeks ago. Are they not available on the open market yet?
I think the funniest bit was about the guy who walked up to them (they were in helmet and goggles) and said "Hey, Ewan McGregor is going around the world on a bike just like these!" They just laughed and said "Really?"
Great Vid, I may have to buy it for the permanent collection.

Fox Reality had a marathon of Long Way Round yesterday. I remember trying to get through the first episode back when it originally aired and gave up on them. Too much petulant actor bullshit for my taste.
I am so glad I sat through it again. I was so wrong. To see how they changed on such a personal level as the trip went through Mongolia and then the Road of Bones segment gave me a new respect for not only Ewan and Charley, but the entire team. I hope to get the DVD soon so I can see some of the backstories that never made it to television.
You gotta laugh your ass off when they were in the middle of Mongolia and the group of police came by and Ewan channeling Obi Wan Kenobie with "these are not the bikes you are looking for. move along".
