Actually three of them, possibly four. I had ridden to the Breckenridge CO OctoberFest with a few other members of the Colorado Beemers MC club, MOA # 66. We meet for breakfast at the Red Rocks Grill in Morrison Colorado just West of Denver every Saturdy at 8:00 and usually a ride breaks out. Stop by if you are in the area. Some are scheduled, some not. This was a scheduled ride to Breck for OctoberFest (in September). That's just the way Breck does it.

Any case I just went for the ride out and back while the others hung out for the day or more. For the return flight I chose to take Swan lake road from Breck to Keystone then Loveland Pass, 11,990 ft. back to I-70 and skip the Eisenhower tunnel. To keep the facts straight, it is the Johnson Tunnel Eastbound and the Ike going West but it is the major Contintinal Divide crossing on I-70 and is a little above 11,000 feet.

In Keystone I met a car covered in black, the kind of stuff a nose bra is made of. Since I was interested in Loveland Pass and getting home, I continued on. A few miles up the pass I met two more, black in color and this time no tarps covering them but you could tell they were altered. To stay with the ride report theme, Loveland Pass is a hoot. While the speed limit is 45 for the most part there are streches you can do 100+ and sections where it is nearly impossible to do the speed limit. At least for an old man on an LT. Come give it a try!

I started to u turn and follow them but the alure of the pass had me. A mile or so from the summit there was a bright blue car sitting at a wide pull out that caused me to slow and stop next to. As I approached the passenger rolled up his window and then they shut off the engine. I stopped behind it and then slowly did a 180 in the gravel without tipping over and pulled along side the driver. He kept his window up but they quickly covered the dash and steering wheel with a large black cloth. There was a lap top between them.

When I said "new Porsche four door, huh" the driver just gave me a s**t eating grin and a shrug. I told him that I have a Carrera and the tail lights, hood slope and head lights gave it away. Other than that it was very well camouflaged with all side body panels covered with the same shade of blue duct tape and some kind of add on panels. They wouldn't let me take it for a spin. Guess my Porsche Club membership card didn't mean squat.

Unfortunately I didn't have a camera in my tank bag. Used to always carry one but how many mountains can you take a picture of? It's different when you live here and look at them every day. Still spectacular.

All in all, a great morning ride and I got to see a really special prototype car slated for 2010 release. You can see the blue one on the the Car and Driver web site at the famous Nurburgring.
