Having just purchased this bike I'm looking at changing out the rear tire but a having some trouble. Its a Metzler 880 Marathon and when I try to roll it out it won't clear the ABS sensor ring (the one with all the teeth). I can see the rim just squeezes by but the rubber is wider than the space available to roll it out. I don't want to force it out and damage the ABS ring. I tried letting all the air out of the tire but that made no diffference.

I'm kind of wondering if the ABS ring is mounted far enough back to allow for clearance or maybe their is something I'm missing. Advice requested, I'm sure we've got a board full of people that have done this before.

thx

Ron

I've done it a few times ... it's a tight fit but not impossible to get her by it.

You may be on some uneven ground making it JUST too tight.

I do recall removing things like the ABS sensor and of course I believe loosening the caliper (If not completely disconnecting it and letting it hang out of the way.

If you just don't have the clearance , get a nice large scrap of 1x6 wood and lift her up on the centerstand on that ... that should give you the little bit your looking for.

BTW ... you did remove the rear license plate/mudflap/fender .... right ?

As I recall .... with that removed , tilting the tire slightly , you roll her straight back.

yes, removed the license plate holder...I do have it up on the center stand... have a nice even concrete floor in the garage, it jut seems that the rubber on the tire is about 1/4" wider than the space I have to roll it out. It rolls back nicely until the rubber tire hits the ABS ring and then it binds.

Would you roll it past the ABS ring and count on the ring compressing the rubber? How fragile is this Toothed ring?

oops...got it guys, went for a coffee, came back to it and wiggled from a different angle, came right off...sorry, just a bit cautious as I ease into the self maintenance stuff.

thanks for the replies

Never had a problem with mine when I removed the rear tire with a 880 on the rim. But I did have the centre stand on a piece of wood to lift it a bit.

Make sure it is the correct size tire. Some one may have put a slightly wider tire one.
