The best way to save money on service is to do it yourself.

Not sure how many miles you rode since last November, so maybe you need to change the oil again or not.
For the 12K miles I would replace the air and fuel filters, both of which require removing the tupperware (nickname for fairing parts) and the fuel tank.
You would be well advised to perform a valve check as well. I doubt you'll need to make any adjustment, but better safe than sorry. Instructions are here, just do not remove the spark plugs: http://www.gunsmoke.com/motorcycling/k1200rs/valves/index.html
You will find everything else you need for your service on our forum. The rest depends on how comfortable you are with tools. The first service will take you an entire day. The next one and all subsequents will take considerable less as you get more familiar with the bike.
Also while you have the tupperware off it would be a good time to add your farkles (mostly their wiring).;)
Because of the age of your bike, regardless of mileage, I would also consider changing the brake and clutch fluid and the coolant, unless you know for sure it has been done before.
Good luck and happy learning!
