Hello Everyone and thanks for the great site and all of the information!

I purchased an HID replacement bulb for the headlight of my '99 K1200LT and searched the website prior to trying to install it. I found some great informaiton on removing the tumperware but I'm now stumped on the removal on the nose fairing.

I've removed the mirrors, windshield, dash piece (the section behind the map light that I removed to take the screws out), unhooked the headlight harness, temperature sensor, parking light, and removed every screw I can find (including the mirror mounting posts). With all of that I still can't get the nose fairing off.

Do I need to remove the side fairings to remove the nose fairing? Are there any hiddent screws besides the one behind the map light and mirrors? Does anybody have photos?

I was following MNeblett's instructions that he posted when trying to remove the nose fairing and thought that I was making great progress doing everything right - maybe I have done everything right and I'm just a wimp when it comes to really cranking on the tupperware.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

WoJo

Wojo, a couple of questions. 1) Did you disconnect the headlight adjustment knob and cable? 2) Did you remove the turn signal's? There is a screw on each side under the lens. 3) you will need to remove the upper fairing sides. Keep us advised of progress.

WoJo,

Welcome to the forum. I think you'll need to remove the side fairings. I can't remember exactly where all the screws are without looking at it. There are a couple of screws behind the marker light that have to come out so don't forget to get those. I can't remember if those screws are connecting the side fairing to the nose piece or to not, but they might be.

If you take the side fairings off you'll then be able to see everything you need.

The first time I took the nose piece off I missed the center screw under the windshield. You didn't miss that one did you?

NOTE: In case you haven't noticed yet, the screws are not all the same length for the tupperware. I color coded my screw locations when I took them out with a paint pen.

Good Luck,
Kevin

I did remove the center screw and the headlight adjustment knob - I haven't removed the turn signals though...and I was hoping not to remove the side fairings.

I didn't think of color coding the screws, I've just been putting the different colors into different locations. That's an awesome idea and will definitely make it easier to do this in the future.

I'll remove the turn signals and side fairings tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Thank you both for the input and help!

There are TWO screws under each turn signal.

You will need to remove the upper side fairings.

Don't forget the two screws on each side of the nose cone that attach to the support tubes. These are hidden behind the upper fairings.

I finally got the nose fairing off - I didn't totally remove the side fairings but loosened them far enought that I could get a right angle driver in to take out the two hidden screws on each side. I definitely felt a sense of accomplishment when that was done. I also found out that the previous owner must not have been very gentle when he took the tupperware off - there were quite a few cracks and a couple of missing screws.

My favorite part of the project was the HID headlight - it was actually pretty easy to install once I got to it and I can't believe the difference! I just got home from a short ride around the Valley and I can't believe the difference it made in my visibility and other people's ability to see me.

By far the most important piece of safety equipment I've purchased (other than my helmet).

Thanks for the help! A high beam modulator and some driving lights lower on the bike will be my next purchase.
