Suburban Machinery Risers - big improvement

After trading the 06 RT for my 07 GT. The ride home with the GT had me thinking twice. I was pretty uncomfortable after only 50 miles, and the pain in my wrists, neck, elbows, was really concerning me.

I bought the SM risers and installed them yesterday, and what an improvement! I have them in the highest position possible with stock cables and I am much happier. Matter of fact I may get longer cables so I can raise them up some more.

Next step is to unfold my knees and drop the pegs. Russel saddle will cure the seat issue, and an Aeroflow windshield for better wind protection. The GT will never be RT comfy, but I hope to get it close.

Funny...I lowered my handlebars all the way DOWN to maximize my comfort. That was some 18K miles ago and haven't looked back. And I wouldn't dare lower the pegs...I'm scraping them occasionally where they are now. But, to each his/her own. Guess I like the sport in sport-touring. ;) But 1200 miles in one day makes me somewhat of a tourer too, I suppose. :)

Interesting. 1,000 mile days were a breeze on the RT - no advil needed. Could not imagine doing it on the GT with the bars down. Two herneated discs will tend to dictate what's comfortable.

Agreed. I'm also looking at getting longer throttle cables to gain those last two positions on the SM risers. For me, it's less of a back issue than a craning-my-neck-up issue. If you're used to sport bikes like Joe then it's probably less of a problem.

I put the Verholen 40mm (1.5") peg extenders on the day I got the GT. They do add a lot of comfort, especially if you have knee problems.

I recently pulled them off just before a big trip and have ridden 6K miles without them over the past month. And while the freeway comfort is diminished some, it's not as much as I thought it would be.

So I think the extenders are a good idea if you need the extra room and you aren't already scraping the stock pegs. I think I'm gonna stay without them though. Anyone want a deal on a slightly used pair of peg extenders?

If you're used to sport bikes like Joe then it's probably less of a problem.Or maybe it's my Neanderthal-like arms. :D
