While at a CCR tech session, I saw some nifty fuel line clamps used on bikes without the quick disconnects. I think they might have been a BMW tool. Does anyone have any they want to part with, or know where I could find them?

Malcolm,

Those were BMW tools we borrowed from Grass Roots. They really do work well and I am trying to find another source for them or make some myself. I'll post when I find some or start making them.

Thanks. They were a lot better that what I've been using. I've been keeping my eyes open for some small D clamps that might be almost as good.

You can buy these type clamps from McMaster Carr.

www.mcmaster.com

search for Part number. 5330K14 or "flow control tube clamp".

These are about $10 each so it might just be worth buying the brass quick disconnects. I think I have seen them for around $15.

would hemostats work? i've used the on other fuel lines. if you worry about the flats on the hemostats put a piece of thin tube over them, the hemostat jaws.

Bingo! That is just what I'm looking for. Thanks.
As for the quick disconnects, since it's only an annual job and the cost and problems with quick disconnects, I'd rather stick with simple stainless steel hose clamps.
Hemostats will work if their stout enough, so will vice grips, but I think in the long run they are not good for the hose and I would rather use the "proper tool for the job". And I get another cool specialty tool for the collection.:D

or for the truly ingenous among us, you can use two bolts and zip-tie them to pinch.. or you can use Vise-Grips to snug them against the hose... That works in a "pinch".. ;)

I ordered the McMaster-Carr 5330K14 and they are a bit too small for our tubing. I opted to go with the 5330K16 as it had a max size of 3/4" compared to the 1/2" of the other clamp. This size should better match the official BMW clamp.
