Out for my morning ride and the speedo starting to wander up and down?? Then it appears to have stop working? Got a '99 with 118K on the clock. Any ideas?

Follow the rear speed sensor wire up from the wheel and you will find a clip or two.
Typically, the sensor wire is chaffed or broken at or very near the clip as I remember it.

Check the wiring coming from the rear dif speed sensor. Where it's zip tied, it often breaks.

As has been stated, follow the wire from the sensor at the rear drive. Mine broke where it was zip tied to the brake line, actually the place where the flex line attaches to the hard brake tube. They zip them too tight at the factory.
You'll have to remove the panel right under the seat in front of the side case.

Everyone has pointed you to the likely problem, but forgot to say that it is easy to solder splice the wire back, then insulate it with tubing or something to prevent it happening again.

It is normally cut through by the flare on the brake line fitting, where the steel fitting is attached to the rubber hose. It flexes right at that fitting when the wheel moves up and down, and the sharp edge of the flare cuts through the wire.

Thanks guys for all the info. The ground wire had broken right at the fare!!
