Bought my 04 LT about a month ago, the dealer gave me a 30 day warranty.
I knew that would cover me for a 3,500 mi trip out west I had planned. I'm going back to the dealer because I think I have a exhaust manifold leak. I've asked him to check out extended warranty prices for me.
The question I have is roughly how much should an extended warranty cost? Are they all thru BMW? Do they cover everything? How long do they go for? Years.. Miles..
Any experiences would be appreciated..
Thanks,
Jeff

It is my understanding that BMW does not offer any extended warranties. I am looking at purchasing a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty through my dealer. The company is Pinnacle Insurance. Dealer tells me it is about $1200 and that I must purchase it before the factory warranty terminates. I have two weeks left. I hope this helps.

I have checked with the sales people at my dealer and the price I got was $1262 + tax. It is for 3 years with unlimited mileage and coverage in US and Canada. It does not have road side assistance. There is no deductible. I am not not sure who it is with but I have talked with the BMW rep and they do not offer it. I am thinking about getting it before my warranty run out in Apr 08. Will find out more from the sales people but they are a 3 hour ride away and are not the fastest with email replies.

An extended warrenty is like most things sold at a car or motorcycle dealership. It is an additional profit center just like undercoating, clear bras and so forth. Some of these items are valuable, some are not.

The extended warrenty probably is valuable but my point is that there usually is some room for negotiation on the price. A $1200 warrenty which is just an insurance policy, may cost the dealer, say $800. Offer them a grand and see what happens.

I bought one a few years ago for a '99 R11RT with a couple of months remaining on the factory warrrenty from Warrenty Gold for $600 or so. They were belly up in six months. As it turned out I never needed the warrenty but unless it is factory authorized there is always some risk.

Pinnacle is a good company. $1200 seems a bit excessive, though. I bought a 5 year extended warranty with them for my Ducati for $700. It has already paid for itself ($500 fuel pump + labor -- only cost me $25 deductible).

Pinnacle is a good company. However I don't think they will cover anything relating to the exhaust system...

Are you still able to purchase an extended warranty even if you did not purchase your bike from a dealer but used from an individual. The bike is an 05 and still under manufactures warranty?

Yes. You can purchase a pinnacle contract as long as the bike is under factory warranty. PM me if you're interested...

I have Protective insurance Xtraride Plus extended warranty for my bike. Their website is: http://www.protective.com/dealerservicesps.asp?id=205 .

This is meant for dealers. But I am sure you can contact them and get info about who to buy it from . It is all inclusive and I paid 700.00 a couple of years ago. Mine is good until 01/09. I believe their published retail is about 1000.00 . They have covered my claims and will have to cover a rear main seal claim from our BMW dealer (my LT is still in the shop) ...

I have been satisfied. I would check them out.

Good Luck.

Check and see if it covers the most common LT problems, rear bearing failure, replacing the clutch because of seal failures (slave cylinder, engine seal, trany seal), broken trunk latches, center stand failures, broken shift linkage, replacing exhaust bolts, fogged radio displays.

I was also quoted $1200 for the 3 year extended warranty on my 2007 LT purchased new in late February. I'll do it, but thought I would keep the money in my account during the new warranty period instead of giving it to them to earn interest on. I'll buy the extension before the warranty runs out.

with BMW of Eugene, OR. While on my recent four corner I stopped there for a service and overheard one of the sales people talking to a customer about extended warranties. they offer one through RPMOne. Company offered a 5 yr unlimited mi. no deductable and no copay and no system excluded. They calculated age by year and offer new bike program back four years, not by milage (36K) meaning (it was explained to me) They offer new bike rates back to 04 model year. even if more then 36K miles on bike. other programs for older bikes at a higher rate. the price is close to what is stated here for other programs, but a longer policy

Check with Tom Cook in sales for more details 541-338-0269

I am going to get one for my LT also, the factory runs out in Dec. When I got my KTM 950 I got a extended warranty for 5yr no deduct unlimited miles through Western General. The dealer was supposed to give me a killer deal on the bike cause I knew someone who was best friends with the owner (Malcomb Smith). When I went to do the deal he says he can't give me the big break on the bike but he will make it up on the extended warranty it listed for around $1400 so he says I can have it for $750, I told him I know he only pays around $450 for it so where's the deal, so he says ok let me make a hundred bucks on the deal so I got it for $550. These things are cash cows, so don't pay the big bucks for them. Another place that sometime sells them is credit unions so check around.

Pinnacle sells several packages, I just purchased from them for $1005 for 3 years unlimited mileage, covers seals and gaskets, abs brakes and everything except the radio, if you want one from them to cover everything you have to buy the touring package + abs. Service guy told me he has replaced a lot of radios under warranty ( this would only be covered with the touring package). No after market warranty will cover the clutch out right. Pinnacle will cover the clutch if a covered item takes it out like a leaking slave cylinder (Most common)

Western told me they would not cover the clutch under any circumstance even if the slave contaminated it.

Just make sure you get one that will cover the major items, the abs and clutch are costly items to repair along with seals and gaskets.

Pinnacle will take care of damage to the bike if a covered item causes damage to an uncovered item (Clutch). Western told me they would not. So be careful in what you purchase and remember your gambling that the bike is going to fail. David Shealy had a Western warranty that covered his bike with him doing all the work himself although the warranty would be voided if it didn't last 10,000 miles. Look at some of his posts along with Coni Fitches posts on their experiences.

Just got a extended warranty from Pinnacle that covers me for 4 more years (mine runs out in Dec) with $25 deduct and covers ABS. It cost me $910 plus $120 for the ABS and because my factory warranty runs out in Dec I had to pay an extra $75, $1205 total.
