As some of you may recall, I had bought a J&M CB2003DU and had paid an enormous amount to have it installed at the dealer. It supposedly took 8 labor hours to put it in, costing me nearly $600. Sadly, I lacked the time or I would have done it myself. A week after I had it installed, it decided to stay permanently on transmit mode. One of the PTT buttons was apparently shorting out and causing the problem, so back to the dealer I went. When I returned to pick up the bike, the owner made it a point to tell me that his technician had spent two hours trying to find the problem, and that since I had supplied the obviously defective part, I would be responsible for the labor cost. Never wanting to leave anything unpaid, I took care of the bill and brought Mein Byk home to ride out hurricane Wilma in my garage. Just yesterday, I had some tinker time and decided to try and trace the rear PTT button, which I was told was the source of the problem, but had not been removed to avoid two teardowns. Much to my chagrin, in 5 minutes I was able to find the problem (that it took BMW 2 hours to find.) The cable of the rear PTT button had been squashed below the rear seat screws and was grounding out. I was fuming! I called the dealer and left a message, but no return call. Today, I took myself over there and nicely (but firmly) told the owner how insensed I was about the installation and how offended I was at that fact that he had made it a point to tell me how much time I had made his tech waste in searching out the problem. He wanted to see the problem and I showed it to him. I was immediately given a refund for the 2 hour "wasted" time and was paid for the PTT button that I now have to replace. Needless to say I won't be going back for a reinstallation. To his credit, the owner was apologetic and didn't waver in issuing the refund, but what was said and done is hard to forget.
