I installed a 256 Meg chip in my Garmin SP111 and now get some really weird routing. This morning I was routed though the middle of the Augusta National for my ride to work. The route shows up on the screen for a second at departure but then takes its way without regard to any street - yet my progress is correctly shown on the screen. A shift back to a 128 Meg chip solves the problem completely.

Any ideas anybody - other than a bad chip.

Maybe the chip is telling you that you work too much and need to enjoy a scenic ride now and again?

{snicker snicker - i couldn't resist} yeah, sounds whacky. can't think of why it would do this unless the unit isn't able to read the entire map set. hmmm.

Sounds like the maps were transferred to the chip but not the additional routing info.

I was advised, possibly wrongly, that the 256 chip does not work in the SP111 so I stick with 2 x 128's one for UK and one Europe. But Europe can be a tight squeeze on a 128, you need to know exactly where you are going. I hope I'm wrong and can upgrade to a 256 soon.

I had been using a 256MB chip in my SPIII/Navigator without any problems.
I use it now in the 376C.

I have 256MB in one SPIII and 128MB in the other. Both work OK for me.

Sorry I can't help you on the routing issue, I've not run into that kind of problem before.

Good to know that the 256 works in the SPIII, will invest in one.

Lee, might be worth checking the Main Menu then System Setup checking Routing tab for your preferences of route, usual suspect is 'Avoid Highways' just a thought.

Thanks but I tried changing those things and nothing helped. I even reloaded the maps - but the maps worked ok anyway. It seems to be in the find waypoint area - at lease that's all I have tried. The 128, 2 64's and one 32 don't have the issue. I will call Garmin and see what they say.

Thanks for everyones input.

But from what I understand...waypoint are not in the memory stick, but rather the onboard ROM. Have you tried reloading the waypoints and any routes via the serial port using the updated Mapsource (6.9.1, I think)?

Ditto from above. I download the maps to the 256 MB Datacard and the Waypoints and Routes to the SPIII.

Well, it seems that ole stupid here did not check the little box at the bottom left of the map page prior to downloading the maps to the GPS. It said to check the box if your GPS supported auto routing - otherwise you just
get the maps with all the details. It was noted that the Auto routing part took about 20% more of the memory so I lost much of the area I had previously loaded. Once the little box was checked - everything works fine.

Note - I do not remember having to do this before. Anyway:

Thanks for the suggestions.

I never would have guessed that. I didn't even know that the box exist, I'll need to check mine when I get home (obviously it's checked).
