I am going to add a Centech fuse box and relay to a friends 05 K12RT, and would like to know what and where to use for a trigger.
I did a search and found that some have used the tail light, but I thought that the 05 RT was a Canbus equipped bike, and if it is anything like my 07 K12GT, then the taillight works on one wire and the canbus varies the voltage when the brakes are applied.
On my GT, I used the low beam lead, because it is in the load shed when the bike is started. I would prefer not to use the parking/sidelights, because they are not in the load shed.
Does anyone know where I can access the low beam lead and what color it is?
On the the GT, there is a wireloom under the right panel, that contains the low beam lead (yellow/white trace) and the parking light lead, but I want make certain before I start cutting. :rolleyes:

You can use the IF-PWR interface by Ezy-Mount Products that allows you to go inline between the parking lamp (headlight one) and the base for said lamp with a 12v lead. This provides you a switched power source that you can use to trigger the relay to the fuse block.

But I would rather not use the parking lamps. I want to use something that will be in the "load shed'. Randy sent me a PM and said he tapped into the the loom at the back of the headlight connector on his wifes R12RT.

Could you just use the GPS power take off plug that is taped to the wiring harness there at the headstock?

I could, but I don't believe that the accessory plug is in the load shed, at least it's not on the GT. That outlet is "hot" as soon as you turn on the key.
I think the low beam will be the best one, because it is not "hot" until the engine is running. The parking lights and the accessory plug would be fine until someone connected aux lights up to that fuse box. The engine might start with the added load when the battery is new, but on a cold morning 1000 miles from home it might fail to start. :mad:

For high load items like driving lights, using the low beam circuit to drive a relay is the best approach. As you said the low beam is always going to be part of the load shed group. That is not true with the accessory outlet or the parking lights.

What does the "load shed" refer to? I am currently planning a Centech AP-2 install and planned to use the Electrical Connections CANbus adapter to get switched power from one of the parking lights. This is the first time I have heard this term. Does this refer to the fact that the parking lights come on when you switch the ignition on, but the low beams only come on once the engine is started?

Correct! There are many other things that are switched on with the key, but you have the right idea.

So the low beam headlight lead would be a better source for the relay controlling my Centech fuse panel, and everything would only come on after the bike is started?
