How easy is it to remove / reinstall the Bakup brand backrest on the LT? I am asking specifically about being able to pull it off for two up riding with SO versus putting it back on for solo. Is it just a push button thing that takes a few seconds or do you have to unbolt something? Thanks.

One of the things I was disappointed about with the Backup is that it is not easily removable. You must remove and replace the two screws that hold in on the bike and then store the whole thing. The Travelcade seat and backrest I had on my Venture was much simpler, it just popped out and I could put it in the trunk until needed. Alas that is not the case with the Backup.

5 minutes max. Just need to lifty the rider seat and take out two bolts. Then put the same two bolts back in to secure the rear seat.

I would like my Bakup much better if it was in two pieces--a frame mount, and then a slot for the backrest itself. My wife does not like to ride when it is on, and consequently, unless I know she isn't going to ride for a few days or so, I usually just keep it off.

You can remove the backrest portion only.

Funny, but one of the main reasons I choose the Bakup was it's easy to install and remove. I remove it when my wife rides and reinstall it for riding solo. I keep a bit holder in my cordless drill with the proper size allen bit for the rear seat screws. When I want to remove the Bakup it takes about 1 minute to raise the seat, remove the screws, remove the Bakup and replace the screws. And on my Bakup I have to unplug the lead to the motor that adjusts the backrest.

 Please explain how this is possible.

Rroll up the sleeve that covers the vertical bracketry. There are two bolts with nuts you can remove that will separate the backrest from the lower portion. Not ideal since now you have an exposed piece of metal. But the backrest is removable. You can also flip the backrest backwards and remove the two bolts behind it and get the backrest off that way but still have the bracketry in place.

I can see how this could be done, however, that bracket sticking out would be a bit dangerous and it still requires tools. Us lazy folks want to be able to just "pop" it off and on with the hardware disappearing when it's off.

I admit it is a very simple chore to install/remove the backrest. I actually got it for my wife since she likes to use it as a handhold. She complains that it does not have a pouch like she had on the Venture. Is there some aftermarket thing I might add so she can store her little essentials?

Call Rhonda at www.bakupusa.com and ask about the pouch.

This was the answer I expected....easy to do, but requires the wrench and a place to store the whole assembly. Also considering the Russell...a little cleaner setup in this regard.

I think once you ride with the back rest, you'll never want to remove it. I makes for a very comfortable ride. My wife uses it to help get on and off and to keep her from feeling like she is sliding forward into me.
