View Full Version : New LT is finally launched . .

After years of speculation, straight from the BMW Motorrad International website. The new LT - looks pretty similar to the current GT, but has technical spec of the current LT (who checks their copy for them!!) . . .

No doubt about it. Someone just pasted pictures of the GT on the current LT spec. sheet.

Not funny at all.

I'm still betting on a 6 cyl. LT.

The specs say "LT" (including the 779 lb. dry weight!) but the pictures say "GT" ...

Maybe they just took the GT, de-tuned the engine and added ballast...

Either way, the piece looks fishy. If true, I'd better take very good care of my current bike 'cause the "new" one certainly doesn't appear to be the luxo-tourer the current one is.

No joke, no photoshop, that pdf is from the current BMW Motorrad International website. Someone is not checking what they put out. Because it's part of a 'FLASH' presentation, it's not easy to post the actual URL, but if you get stuck, I'll show you how to get it.

Telelever front end, WAD rear suspension, fully linked integrated ABS. Sounds like an 05 LT press sheet. If I understand correctly BMW is doing away with fully integrated abs any way. Plus those engine specs are for the current LT

OK, I'll spell it all out. That PDF is from the BMW Motorrad International website,

http://www.bmw-motorrad.com/com/en/index.html

Click on 'Motorcycles' (2nd from left tab on LHS)

Click on K1200LT from drop down list

Click on 'Navigation' under K1200LT on the LHS, just a little down from the top

Go down to the bottom of the drop down list and click on 'downloads'

Click on 'Datasheet K1200Lt.pdf' and that is where it came from - no one is checking what BMW are publishing.

Can't believe this - the original post was done as a piss take of a mistake on a BM website, - now everyones saying - can't be true, Woollys making it up, Gonna hang on to my old LT etc. etc.

Loosen up guys, even my orginal thread said 'who checks their copy for them!!' - there is still no official evidence of a new LT.

At least follow Wooly's site navigation, the file is posted on BMW's website. Who, other than Jack, can say that it is not true? At least offer some reference from BMW as Wooly did.

Personally, I don't care for the pictures on this pdf, it's not a touring machine anymore at that point.

They even have the black one labeled as biarritz blue and visie-versie. Woolly, I got a ocean front property in Kansas I wanna sell ya.

I don't know so much about the GT's, but if that's a 2008 LT, BMW has swapped the exhaust and FD's on them.

I know my exhaust is on the left, because I (gulp) washed the LT this evening. I know LT's aren't supposed to be washed, ridden only. Take a look at my cars and you'll know I'm a firm believer in letting sleeping dirt lie. Since I don't have windshield wipers on the LT, I have to clean the windshield to be able to see through it and the rest doesn't take me that much longer.

Hmm.... Someone's head is going to roll over this one..... That's what happens when you have people in your graphics arts department that don't know your product line. Imagine this one must have gone from the dimwit that made the change to the manager of the dimwit to the IT QA department and everyone that signed off on the change to the IT guy that posted it.. Gee, doesn't anyone know anything about motorcycles over there??

Make's you wonder about what goes on there........

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Either BMW has lost their mind or will be loosing some staff and loads of us LT customers. Honda must be laughing and will be doing so all the way to the bank..

Let's see, I have an '03. Lots of model years ahead of mine. I think I should be satisfied for a good long time. Then, maybe i'll buy an '05, '06 or '07 ...

I'm not worried.

I'm kinda leaning towards getting a GT...keeping the LT for sure. The idea of over 150hp has piqued my interest.

I really cant see much more improvement in the LT without making it more "rotund".

How about "dependable"????? :histerica

Go ahead and attack, but I seriously would suggest an engine more like the GT's...maybe designed for more torque than the GT...with the new engine would come a dependable, wet clutch...let's see, maybe a rear drive that doesn't fail as often...maybe an "off" switch on the ignition that actually means "off" and doesn't kill the battery...fix wobble in front end...tranny seals that don't leak....etc...

Uuuuhhhh, naw, I can't think of any improvements for the LT. Sorry....

I see your point there Jack, and no need to attack it. The one year anniversary of my LT ownership is coming up soon, and so far the machine has been trouble free. I ride it nearly everyday, and am still amazed at the quality of the ride and the machine. Yes I have replaced the brake pads, both front and rear, along with all fluids being changed. I check the tire pressures once a month and every other month I have to add air to the front tire, but no wobbling issues whatsoever. ( cant seem to find a leak either )

The electrics seem to be fine, I just make sure everything is OFF before I dismount.

I know that someday I will have to replace the clutch, but to me that is no big deal, and will most definately will be a learning experience. I make a tidy sum on side jobs replacing wet clutches on other bikes, among other things. ( a mechanic is NEVER semi-retired )

All that being said, I guess I have had enough experience on other bikes to know when I have a REALLY good one.

BMW did it right in my books when it comes to the LT, for me it is a perfect motorcycle, and any improvements would blow me away.

I guess I just got a good one ( but if I get a chance to rip through the gears on a GT, it may mean a trip to the loan officer is in my future)
