I broke my rule about riding at night on the country roads around here and it almost cost me. We have a visitor in town who wanted a ride on the LT. I had to return a movie so had her hop on for the ride down the main drag to the movie store. Then I thought, I'll just go the back way home even though it's dark. It's not that long and it will afford her a little better ride. Long story short, before I had a chance to even think there was a large buck right in front of me on the road. I swear I hit the brakes hard before I even knew what I was doing -- thanks to all those hard stops I practic every day I ride. Thankfully I missed the deer. So much for breaking my riding rules. All I can say is, if you're not practicing hard stops at all speeds regularly, it might not be second nature to you when you really need to stop. Hey, I know I was lucky, too. If the timing had been different or the speed a little higher, who knows?
