I have a small oil leak from the timing cover.

This appears to be a common fault on the K1200RS and appears to be difficult to resolve on that model.

Is this also a common problem on the LT?

If you have repaired this fault on your LT was the repair successful and if so what was the secret of your success?

It is not terribly common, but did happen some on the older LTs, especially the '99-'01 bikes.

It is sealed to the crankcase with sealant, no gasket. Yes, pulling it off, cleaning it well and re-sealing it works. I used Permatex Ultra Black Gasket Maker, available just about anywhere. No need to try and source the hard to get sealant prescribed by BMW.

If it is a small leak, there is no real need to solve it except for the unsightly grunge on the bottom of the engine fairings, and possible spots in your parking spot. Save the repair untill you want to tackle it, unless the bike is still in warranty, then let the dealer do it as a warranty repair.
