View Full Version : Went Down Today

I was passing a line of cars waiting to make right hand turns when one of them got impatient and jerked into my lane. Immediate impact. Re-earned my airborne wings and then bounced across the pavement a little.

I got some surface damage - as far as I know - but poor LT is lookin' like she's headed to the bone yard. Can anyone estimate the salvage value of a beautiful black 2001 LTC?

Many thanks.

ah dang it.

Sorry to hear that Michael. I am guessing you fared well considering. Take it easy the next few days.

Bikes are replaceable.

Thanks Raffy.

I am serious about the salvage value question. Other drivers insurer already called to see what I want to do. I'm sure she's totalled, but I want to negotiate a repurchse. Just need to know what number is "reasonable."

I'm waiting for the police report. Motorcop said fault was with cage driver. I want to see it in writing.

Not sure what the value is. I am sure if you do a search on the compouter you can get a good idea. Good luck and glad to see you are OK. The bike can be replaced.....or repaired..

Glad you're ok. The LT can certainly be replaced by a GT or RT or another LT for that matter.

Tony, (Deputy5211) recently went through the same issue.

I'll bet he can give you a pretty good idea of what it's worth..

And what you can get for it to part it out..

Give him a yell..

Again, Glad you're ok...Sorry about the flying lesson.

Cannot answer your salvage value question, but so sorry to hear about your get-off. Sounds like you are o.k... a good thing.

FWIW: I purchased my '01 with about 30K on odo last winter for less than $9k.
Value depends on time of year, mileage, etc.

I'd call a few dealers to get an idea: salvage value is negotiable with insurance co.!

Kelly's Blue Book has no data on bikes, Motorcycle Consumer News has a semi-annual chart (don't have it handy now, anyone?).

Check out www.ibmwr.org/market for for-sale ads (and Classifieds forum here).

Good luck, good recovery! RObert.

Glad your ok. Since you are an attorney, I assume that you will be suing the cage driver and sounds like he deserves everything you can get out of him. Sam's Cycle Salvage in Houston is a good place to ask questions of even if he is a curmudgeon. You can Google or Yahoo yellow page the place to get a phone number. Or, drop me a pm and I will dig out his number from my scraps of paper filing system.

Michael,
Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad to hear you are relatively OK.

Kelly's Blue Book does have motorcycle rates, but they probably won't help you much:

Kelly Blue Book (http://www.kbb.com/kbb/OtherVehicles/PriceType.aspx?VehicleClass=Motorcycle) online might give you some idea of value.

Glad you're OK. :)

Check with 3-5 dealerships that have handled totaling bikes for insurance claims. Most dealers will have taken a bike apart to determine if it is totaled or repairable. They can give you a basis on what some of the insurance companies have settled for on final numbers.

www.nada.com

this is what our bank uses to appraise our vehicles. they have your LTC with a low retail of $7,010. and average retail of 9,220. That is bone stock.

First glad to hear you are OK.

The salvage value depends on the damage. A bike that is totaled with mostly cosmetic damage will have a higher salvage value than one with bent forks and a broken frame even though the original value & repair dollars could be the same.

When buying back a bike or car try and take the emotional attachment out of the equation or you will end up paying too much. Counter offers are your friend.

Geez, guess I should check all the Forums a little more frequently! Glad to hear that you survived the incident Michael. And I think your idea of keeping the Bike for salvage is a great one since folks here are always looking for used parts. Like John said, contact Tony, (Deputy5211) to see how that has worked out for him.

Good Luck on the settlement!

John

Haha... I think the cager was a decent guy who just made a mistake. Contrary to popular opinion, attorneys do still look for justice and not merely an extra dollar or two. Provided I'm made whole in a reasonable amount of time, no lawsuit would be forthcoming. Heaven knows I have enough of them going on already. There are enough a$$holes to sue without having to screw with the honest folk.

Thanks for your concern everyone. I'll be back on a beemer in no time.

All my best...
