I occasionally enjoy surfing the Wing and HD sites. The Wing site now has a forum dedicated to comparing the Wing to HD’s. Can you say: “Get a life!” Thoughts?

I too read some other sites just to see what's up. I think, considering the difference in traffic that you see here versus a Goldwing site, there are a similar amount of my bike vs. their bike posts.

I must confess, this is one area of motorcycling that has me baffled. There is such a fixation on justifying a person's choice in motorcycles. It's as if the fact that someone bought the motorcycle that they liked the most is not good enough. It is such a turn off. No one really seems to care what kind of car I drive or clothes I wear or golf clubs I use...but something about my motorcycle and how I could possibly want that one instead of the one they own is just kind of weird.

Do I really like my K1200LT? You bet. Would I be having a great time if I bought a Goldwing? I am sure I would. Can I see myself buying an Electra Glide? Of course.

Perhaps it is because motorcycling is something that people enjoy passionately and occasionally that passion gets mis-directed into useless posturing and opining.

I could be all wet on this topic and apologize if this was not the purpose of your post.

Lets see over the years I have owned

VW
Audi
Porsche
Chevy
Ford
Kia
Toyota
MB
Honda
Yamaha
HD
BMW
and others I am sure I am forgetting

Why is the bike crowd so polarized? I don't know, and I don't get it either. Maybe we are as equally intelligent as the red neck Ford/Chevy crowd...

Hey....everyone who knows anything knows that Nike irons are for Tiger Woods wanna-be posers!

Maybe golf clubs were not the best example I could have cited :D

There's just something strange about the human condition that causes us to act this way. And we are ALL guilty of it at one time or another. I truly don't care what someone else rides, and yet there are times when I'll look at another bike and wonder, "Why the heck is he riding THAT?". The truth of the matter is, it really doesn't matter what I think. If that guy is happy...so be it.

Looking at it from a different angle however, I don't think you can dismiss the entertainment value from bashing other makes and models. As long as it's all done in good fun. :) I really appreciate Jap bikes. But I usually don't pass up the opportunity to razz a fellow-rider when he's riding along with me on his Jap bike.

And don't even get me started on Harleys! :D But they're almost too easy to pick on, now aren't they? ;)

Sure they do. Other golfers, people on the driving range, people eating on the club patio, and of course the cars going by on the street along the course. Wait, maybe that's just the way I play golf.:D

Bahhhh.. Motorcycles?? You ain't seen nothing. Motorcycling is a bastion of "let's get along." You want to read "Mine is better than yours"? Try cruising "gun boards." Glock vs 1911, 9mm vs 45, AK vs AR, revolver vs semi-auto, Colt vs Smith & Wesson, Glock vs everybody else, now that I think about it.

My golf irons are "Aliens". Great clubs. The only problem is...I can't take them into USA.

The Wing versus HD Forum was the best thing GL1800riders.com ever did.

It keeps the junk threads off the main board. For those of us that don't care about such things, we simply avoid that area.
