I'm not "justlookin" any more. I am officially a new guy.
Picked up a 04 K1200LT yesterday. What a change. I put 20,000 miles on a VTX 1800R in the last 15 months, and have a 4,000 mile trip planned for next month.
There is a great VTX site I learned quite a bit on it. This looks just as addictive.. Is there a "tech" section? I try to do oil changes etc myself and was looking for "how to" stuff.
Any other BMW boards you folks visit?
Can't make the Ozarks gathering. (Will be on the was West)
I can tell the the LT is not perfect from reading some posts, but nothing is. Just trying to dodge as many pitfalls as I can.
Looking forward to daily visits here.

Congrats on the new bike - get some piccies posted!! If you click on the 'Technical' tab on the top right of the screen, you'll get a drop down menu, click on the 'Hall of Wisdom' and you'll find everything you want to know (plus quite a lot you probably don't want to know :)).

Paul Sayegh has a two CD video he sells that goes through most of the normal service for an LT. It includes crankcase, rear drive and transmission changes, removal or front and rear tires, changing brake pads, brake flushes, spark plugs, and more. I found it to be invaluable.

Hey Jeff, thanks for the update. Ya know, you're not really such a "new guy," you were a member of this site from when you first signed up! But now you are a member who rides the LT, and that's a great combination. I have to agree that this is a great site. Some incredible people continue to spend a huge amount of time and energy to keeping it running, and everyone is willing to help out where they can (and to kibbitz from the sidelines as well ;)) with support and suggestions to riders. There is a huge amount of "tech" info on the site. Take a look at three different places. On the Home Page (where you sign in), in the left column, there should be a link to FAQ. Good place to start. On the Home Page in the blue menu bar near the top there is a link to "Articles." There are very detailed, step-by-step instructions for various projects among the articles, including a really good oil change 101 article. And finally, there is the Hall of Wisdom, or HoW; I think the link is in the left column on the home page. Do a click and there will be an introduction to the HoW explaining how it is set up.

Can't find what you are looking for in those places? No prob. Click on "Search" (blue horizontal menu bar), type in what you want to know, and hit enter. It's likely that you will get a list with tons of threads. Pick one that looks promising and enjoy! Want more info of the same type as a thread you are reading? Scroll all the way to the bottom of the last page of the thread. There will be several other threads about the same topic listed down below the last post.

Still can't find the info you need? No prob. Start a new thread and ask.

Yes, the site can be addicting, but dang, the bike is addicting too. I tell my wife that these are good addictions.

Make sure you introduce yourself down in your regional forum, too. Folks in all the regions like to get together for tech sessions. Great place to meet people and learn more about the bike. Enjoy your new ride, and ride safe.

Thanks for all the feedback.
I knew I was going to like it over here..
What is the CCR? Is that the gathering at the Lake of the Ozarks??
I'd love to go, but I have to make this trip out thru Yellowstone, the Big Horns, then over to South Dakota at the same time..
I've got to get used to the new peg position.. I had forward controls on my X so I could stretch out. I'm 6'5" so I still feel a little cramped on the LT.
I haven't found the regional boards yet..

The biggest LT rally is happening in your backyard starting August 27th- 28th. I hope you are registered to attend. If you want to learn about your bike, this would be your best opportunity.

I feel your pain ;).

I've got to get used to the new peg position.. I had forward controls on my X so I could stretch out. I'm 6'5" so I still feel a little cramped on the LT.
I'm 6'4", so I really feel your pain ;). Serially, after getting used to the LT I have not found the riding position at all uncomfortable. Others have screaming knee and hip joints after a few hours. You will discover lots of aftermarket goodies (we like to call them "farkles," except for Joe who has a hatred of the word) for forward foot rests, custom seats, lowered pegs, etc.

I haven't found the regional boards yet..

On the "Forums" main page (the one you were on when you selected the K1200LT forum) there are lots of categories of fora. Scroll all the way down to almost the bottom of the page, and the regional fora are lurking there, along with international fora (I'm just having fun writing fora instead of forums at this point), and a bunch of others. After visiting with your regional brethren and sistren, scroll back up the page and have a look at Classified, Chit/Chat, and others. I hope you are well rested because you will never sleep again :thumb:.

Hey, congrats on your new ride. I bought ours at the beginning of the year and we love it. I hope you have as much enjoyment with yours. As you said, no bike is perfect, which is why I had to buy a GS later! Enjoy the journey. :bmw:
