OK- I am still a new guy so I can ask this with a straight face. I am coming off a K1200RS smooth as silk and fast too- so I may just be too sensitive.
This R12RT has vibes man- vibes. Dealer says its normal they all do it... huh?
What's with the engine vibration at about 4k rpm up to 5k? That's right where I want to cruise.
They did the 6k service so I assume there has been attention to the valves and throttle body synch. what am I not understanding? or do I need another opinion?
FYI Its still under warranty.

Learn to do your own valves and throttle sync, most shops only get it close. If you want it done right do it your self........
The Valve adjustment and throttle sync only takes about 1 hour once you do it a few times and it very easy.
As for being as smooth as an inline 4, not going to happen but it should not be that bad. It will continue to get smoother with the more miles.

thanks.. I just took it to my main man at the independent shop- best in the world... he did test ride- declared it exactly as it should be... except the shock need to be set correctly- no big deal.
The problem was apparently my finely tuned butt- after being on the K12RS...

I've had my 1100R for 7 years now and it is as smooth as silk - but wasn't when it was new. Started getting really smooth at around 6-8000 miles and after the 18k service it was a dream.
My 1200RT has just had its 600 service and it, too, roars and vibrates at 4-5000 rpm, especially with the throttle well open! Looking forward to it smoothing out over the miles, but generally it's a very nice engine.
I have found that the bike is REALLY well balanced. Even 2 up I can roll along at under 1/2 mile an hour in traffic quite easily with no wobbling (witness during a major jam on Rt128 around Boston yesterday). The 1100R isn't that good...

I have the same opinion. My R1150R was a little smoother, but showed a similar vibration at 4000-5000. It got noticeable better after a TB synch I did myself at around 16,000. I also added a throttle meister that I ended up not using, but the heaveier bar end weighs helped. I will probably order some Manic Salamander weights for my 12RT.
Neither bike buzzes nearly as bad as my '01 CBR600F4i. Without thick gel grips, your hands go almost numb after an hour or so cruising on the freeway at almost 9000RPM. Looking back, I can't believe I rode that thing 30,000 miles in 2 years. I was young and crazy!

Just completed a 2000 mile ride up to Canada and back, and the bike now has 3000 miles on the clock - and it's MUCH smoother. Still roars like a lion when under hard acceleration between 4000 and 5000 - and even more so at over 7000 - but it is smoothing out nicely. Tick-over is now a soft purr.
The biggest and only problem with the bike is the seat. We MUST get a decent one before the next real ride as anything over 150 miles on the stock seat gets painful. 300+ mile days were not pleasant....... Other than that the bike performed like a dream, and was averaging over 50 mpg for the last few days.
