Anyone else having problems with PayPal? They put the money for a sold item into some account that no longer exists and are tasking 7-10 days to get me access to the money. I'm through with those idiots.
Rant off.

About 6 months ago I heard Google was planning to open a PAYPAL like service, but run correctly and FDIC ($100K) insured...
Does anyone know any more about this service???

There are lots of rumors about Google. Almost all of them are just rumors.

Paypal is a great, wonderful, and almost perfect way to pay for stuff online. But, as for a means to collect money, it totally SUCKS!!! Unfortunately, if you eBay, you almost HAVE to paypal. Almost...

You might be right, but as I remember it…it was on one of those Sunday (or evening) financial shows. So at the time it seemed creditable.

Could'nt have said it better myself!
I dumped them 3 yrs ago after they were requiring "more information" from account holders....SS#, Employer, complete financials....
No safeguards on what they do with the information....
Read some horror stories about $250 disputes & PayPal freezing someones bank account with thousands in it....

I have used Pay Pal since the day they started. I use a CC I have registered with Pay Pal. Also, Pay Pal is owned by E bay.
I have never once had any problems with them as long as I understood the rules and guidelines. I have also never paid an "un verified" member, which protects you a little more.
As far as banks go, I have had several problems with "B of A" which amount to more than I have ever had with Pay Pal.....
Sorry to hear about your difficulty.... :(

Wow. Different strokes I guess Stu. I love B of A and couldn't get away from Wells Fargo fast enough...

I have been using PayPal for three years, with only one problem. I used it to pay for an item I got on eBay from my daughter's home in Memphis. They sent me an email (to my home email address) asking me to confirm that I wanted to make the payment, as it was made on a different computer. I did not see that email for about 4 days because I was not home, and my account was frozen. Took me a couple days to get it re-instated and I had to change my password.
At least they stopped payment because of the different source computer, but getting it straightened out was harder than I feel it should have been. I will take that over them allowing the payment unchallanged though!

I've used Paypal for years, with no problems. Like said above, don't use it with another party that isn't verified. If you are a seller, you must ship to the paypal registered address, no exceptions.
Because of the fees, I quit my enhanced Paypal account, and went back to a personal account. That means I can't accept a credit card for items I sell. I can only accept payment from a bank account or existing Paypal balance, but it means I pay NO fees. Occasionally that's an issue with a buyer, but I make it clear in my auctions. Could be its costing me some bidders, but that's my choice.
I would think it reasonable for Paypal to charge fees for credit card transactions, and not for bank account ones, on the same account. They won't do that. If you get a full Paypal account, you pay the fee whenever you collect money, even if paid with a bank account.
The answer is to open a second Paypal account, just for credit card tranactions, when the cost is worth it to you. To do that, you'll need a separate email address, and a separate bank account to link to. The last one may be difficult for some people, but wasn't for me.

CCR is going on 6 years using PayPal for credit card processing and we've had zero problems. We even had a member send a payment to an old CCR address payment address, and after 2 phonecalls to PayPal, it was fixed.

I have a Pay Pal account out of necessity - sometimes there is no other choice and I am buying something that is important to me. When ever given a choice, I will use another method or just forget about the purchase - generally there are other options. I've had problems in the past - I don't consider them to be reputable or concerned about customer service. But to be honest, I don't much like e-bay either. Haven't even looked at the site for several years.
YMMV

I signed up for a Paypal account a year or so ago, used it for some E-bay purchases. That was pretty slick !!
Then a few months ago, my account needed accessing for a new purchase.
Was promped for password, Would not take it, Went to password recovery And anwsered all the password protection questions to a T .... My account was frozen stating more info was required. SS#, bank statement, Payroll stub Ect. :p
I never would validate my account when first set up because of the request for banking info ... Now ... *uck em !!!
They still have my active CC number, so what is one to do ???
You can hardly do squat online without paypal :(
Some times you just can't win.

You have to be careful. Make sure it says https://www.paypal.com. That 's' after http is PayPal's secure site. Anything else that opens up that looks like PayPal login and does not have https on the login page is a fraud.
