Hello all
Been lurking for a couple weeks and still not sure about this email stuff (sending messages). I have owned and rode many different Motorcycles over the past 50 years, bought a new R75/5 while stationed in AF at Camp Niew Amsterdam Holland in 1971, sold it in 1989 because my job with railroad afforded not many opportunities to ride. Since retirement from RR and 16 years of not riding I decided it was time (one month ago) to take up again one of the pleasures of the past and went and bought myself a 2000 K1200LTC from another geezer that had health problems that allowed him to only put 1,911 miles on the bike since new. Have I got a lot to learn!!! world of difference in the two BMW bikes, not to mention weight.
This is a great web site and I have learned a lot already.

I know exactly what you mean. I went from riding a K100LT in 1993 to nothing for ten years, to the LT a couple of years ago, which I basically bought without even a test ride, because I knew it's what I wanted. Boy, was I shocked to discover the differences, especially the weight! :o

My 00 didn't come with the crash pan. But, BMW gave me one for free.

Is there one on your LT?

I bash mine a lot when going over speed bumps, if I go too slow.

You might want to replace the tires if the bike has been sitting for five years without being riden much.

You've found a cool bike. We look forward to the ride reports. If you're not sick of trains by now, why don't 'ya ride across the country and stop to take pics of motorcycles in front of trains? Well, not in front of them, exactly - but maybe next to the track. heh heh.

Thats them crazy dudes that jump out of perfectly good airplanes isn't it? I was in AF for 20+ years and worked fighters as crew chief, prolly have couple hunderd thousand jumps myownself, they were all on the ground when I jumped tho.

Bike has origional tires, I over inflated them to check for weather cracks and they look OK will keep a close eye on them.

I got tired of having to calculate what my actual speed was, so when I changed the air filter, I pulled the speedo out, and with the aide of a lighted magnifying glass, I soldered a jumper on the PC board. I need the magnifier to work on PC boards, especially SMT.

Speedo is now pretty accurate.
