I posted a comment or two on other's threads about my consideration of replacing my 2004 FJR1300 with an R1200RT. My short story: serious arthritis in right (throttle hand/wrist) which surgery cannot correct without unacceptable risks.
So then, this morning I hopped an early morning Amtrak train from my home city and headed for the dealer which had a 2-month old fully equipped 2007 RT (all options except alarm and ASC) with just 500 miles rolled to-date. Not even enough miles yet to perform the 600 service! And there she was - pristine and beautiful with nary a blemish on her lovely skin (are you getting weepy eyed yet?). So I handed over the check, signed requisite docs and was ready to roll the 100+ miles ride home.
This RT already had aftermarket (Suburban) peg lowering kit and bar risers, which I wasn't sure I would like (I do!). The freeway ride home was effortless and my wrist cooperated like the FJR never would have, even with the RT's cruise turned off much of the way. I found the brake pedal way too high (it hadn't been lowered via turnbuckle to compensate for lowered peg). I truly felt comfortable immediately on this bike! I'm pretty certain I will change the windscreen to something quieter that will allow greater enjoyment of the radio/CD unit (I wore my Schuberth S1 helmet today). I have a V-Stream on my FJR which has been quite effective. So far, the saddle feels fine and I do have a universal Sheepy Hollow sheepskin available from the FJR. Tomorrow will bring local backroads twisty riding rather than freeway. I already know how well the RT will do there! I look forward to a mechanical lover affair with this thing! Anybody wanna buy a primo Yammie FJR??? ;)
Oh yeah, the first adjustment this afternoon was to lower that too-high brake pedal after a trip to the hardware store for a longer return stop screw. All is well now - I'll do more "testing" tomorrow! :bmw:
